Battle test: Macs run Vista better than PCs

macvpc lede 0508

The Mac vs. PC battle is an old one that’s not going to find resolution anytime soon. It’s all about different tastes, I like OSX, Devin likes Windows, fine, that’s his problem.

But what about just hardware? What happens if you take the operating system out of the equation?

The Mac still wins, at least according to the hardware guys at Popular Mechanics, who installed Vista on an iMac and a similarly configured Gateway. The Mac ran everything better. PopMech has the details, but I’m feeling smug just knowing the results.

I hope this somehow makes it into the next “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” commercials.

This really isn’t an insult to Microsoft since they don’t design the hardware. It’s more of an insult to companies like Dell, HP, etc…

What on Earth made them choose a Gateway as a benchmark for Windows?

Hell, why even bother with a comparison — they should just scream at the thing, throw the spotted monitor at the wall, and be done with it. Then have Acer buy up the scrap…

Many things wrong about that article:

- The machines were not equal. Macs were noticeably better machines had faster processors. RAM above 2GB does not make much difference.

- They did not list what type of RAM they used or what type of harddrive was used.

- If their Vista PC and Laptops are the same price as the Mac counterparts they need to learn to shop. There is no way the Gateway and Asus machines cost just as much as the Macs.

Given the same hardware both systems should be about the same.

Actually, if you check out the hardware in an iMac (processors and video chips are laptop versions) and the hardware in similar all-in-ones from Dell, Gateway, and even Sony (with desktop versions of processors and video chipsets), you’ll see that the iMac is an incredible deal.

Desktop hardware is cheaper, but Dell, Gateway, and Sony make more expensive all-in-ones and are actually SLOWER parts than the ones in the iMacs. The only one even worth considering is the Sony Viao because it’s just gorgeous. But they’re all rip-offs compared to the iMac. It really opened my eyes to compare parts and see the prices of the two.

The real insult is that there is a Pepsi can next to the iMac and a Coke can next to the PC. How dare that photographer side iMacs with Pepsi. I’m disgusted. If I knew his name or email I’d sign him up for a bunch of spam mail and then laugh about how I got him back for this injustice.
