Apple fixes Windows installer to make Safari “new software” and not “OMG LIFE-THREATENING UPDATE TO WINDOWS CLICK NOW!”

Apple has improved its update system to mark Safari as new software and not an update to iTunes. This comes after many complained of having to install Safari after updating iTunes. This also comes because some people are cry-babies.

  • Coming from somebody who loves iTunes but doesn’t want Safari on his computer, its a little annoying having it pop up to download every time you get an update from iTunes. This is actually more annoying – before it was just with iTunes, but now I’m getting prompted to install Safari from “Apple Update”. Makes sense though – Apple now has another way to throw this download at users who declined to get it the first time.

  • Too late, I’ve already disabled Apple’s autoupdate on all the office machines I admin. It was bad enough that Quicktime’s auto-update always wants to include iTunes, throwing Safari into the mix was just a bit too much.
