"shame you guys in the Us seem to be so far behind in this area?"

The reason why we are "so behind" is because the USA is typically the innovator for things. That means we invent the technology and are the first to implement it. We test out the first generation (which is usually the biggest, clunkiest around).

This is a disadvantage in that after we invent it and create it, very quickly the second and third generations come out (while we are still putting up first generation towers or still trying to recoup our investment in the first generation towers before we can tear them down and put up second/third generation towers)!

While we are doing this, other countries jump on right when the second or third generation comes out. No need to build the first generation or recoup investment on first generation, skip to stage 2!

So, because we are "ahead" we are actually "behind", if you catch my drift;-)

for comparison: nokia sold over 10 million Nseries in 1Q/08, so who is playing catchup here? it's the entire US that will take years and years to catchup to europe, let alone asia, before consumers can have the same experience. this is where iPhone already has made a huge difference and that is great. But superior it is not yet. Its not all about the UI you know you gotta look at whats inside the box.

1 more thing:megapixels are important if you are into photography. shooting and sharing video's is greatly enhanced experience when supported by a good lens. can you share btw. Pictures/video with bluetooth? Its all i sync with my Mac. does the iPhone have regular FM radio? Do you know how GPS works in practice? If you do you'll admit one can't do without it once tried.

I commend iPhone as a really great icebreaker for the US. It is a great gamechanger and I am happy came to market with it. but there is a huge elephant in the room and nobody talks about it. Do you even know how small and easy it is to change an SD memory card? Memory comes cheap these days.My first touchsccreen dates back to 2004. I believe it was the 770 or so. Problem with touchscreen is you can never type as fast as on a physical keyboard. This point is evidenced in the US by the success of the blackberry in the enterprise market. I hate to point it out though but the reason the US market doesnt have 3G networks yet is because?

Are you high? The iPhone is still way ahead of any competitor. It was years ahead of anyone when announced, and other mobile phone makers are still struggling to make a phone as easy and logical to use. Anyone complaining about the megapixel count in a camera is disqualified from the discussion. The megapixel number does not determine the quality of the pictures.

The reason iPhone don't have 3G right now is because 3G isn't widely used in the countries that has the iPhone. Therefor it makes no sense complaining about it.

And about this GPS/Memory Card nonsense...apparently you live in the stone age if you think it's convenient or practical to carry around a bunch of memory cards and batteries to support your strange machine. Most people will feel it's more practical to just carry a 16GB iPhone. No GPS or 3G that drains the battery, and if you need a computer with you at all times.....why not just get a computer instead of trying to get your Nokia to act like one.

iPhone is the goal of which all other makers are trying to reach. We'll soon start seeing touch screen phones without keyboards from Nokia, SE and Samsung. But when we do, Apple will probably have taken yet another leap forward, and reached a new goal which all the other mobile phone makers will try to reach within the next 2 years.

I agree with FatsoPilot. When Steve Jobs introduced the iPhone he made fun of the other smartphones that had physical buttons, and keyboards on them. I think Apple is full committed to the software upgrade with iPhone, and yearly hardware upgrades to the radio, memory, camera, battery life and hopefully processor speed. These are all things you can do without changing the shape of the iPhone. Well, Steve could make it thinner.

From Europe: I've been surfing the net with my phone (only had nokia) for over 4 years. i use multiple 2Gb SD cards that can easily be changed, so when I need to I can carry 24Gb and more in my pocket, depending on the need. did I mention GPS? video camera? 5 megapixel camera that allows me to store 1000s of pictures? it tells me where I am, and how to get from A to B either by foot or by car, in 2D or in 3D. Don't get me wrong, I've been a loyal apple fan since 1992, but when it comes to mobility and what the US likes to call 'cellphones', to me has been a fully functional multimedia computer for several years now. My guess is that once i get my iPhone I will still carry my heavy duty Daily device to meet my needs such a posting here while on the go. shame you guys in the Us seem to be so far behind in this area? and why is that? hope iPhone will change things for the better.
