This is a nice little Wednesday treat for all of you Helio members out there. If you use an Ocean, Mysto, or Fin, then you have access to the “ultimate inbox” feature, which includes IMAP access to your gMail.
IMAP is good, but on the go users want push email, and starting today Helio devices have just that for gMail accounts.
Just check your gMail like you normally would and you’ll be asked if you want to enable push. Say “yes” and you’re set. I’ve been using it this morning and it works great.
Helio is the first operator Google is offering this to, though our Google rep couldn’t be reached to say how long the exclusivity will last.

YES! I get alerts from my regular IMAP account, too!
What do you mean Helio is the “first” carrier to offer this? I have had my GMail PUSHED to my BlackBerry for over a year. Yes, pushed. No, I am not mistaken. I get an email in my GMail inbox and in less than 5 seconds, it’s on my BlackBerry.
Before someone comes in and gets all high and mighty. A BlackBerry on the BIS will poll POP accounts every 15 minutes for new mail, that is all POP accounts EXCLUDING Gmail and Yahoo. Gmail and Yahoo have always been push capable over BIS, so again, how is Helio the first carrier to get this?
It sure isn’t the first to get GMail IMAP support, as the iPhone and Windows Mobile devices have had that for a long time as well. So, I guess my actual questions, is how or why is this special, and what is Helio actually the first to get again?
Blackberry users are a qurcky gay little bunch. Calm down homo and just stick to your little Blackberry.
Awww… I’m sorry that I have had access to a technology for years that you are just now getting. Maybe when you grow out of your juvenile adolescence and learn to stop getting all defensive and needlessly call people names, you too can get a big boy smartphone.
Maybe you should check out the 7 other wireless news website that all report that Helio is the first to get Gmail push. Of course you have gmail pushed on your blackberry, like you said your on the BIS server. With Helio there is no server, and its a free service you dont pay extra for.
SO MEANWHILE WHERE THE FOCK is gmail push on the iphone?? Are we witnessing a preemptive snub at google in the event that their google voice app does not get approved?
