I actually owned both the Navigon 2100 and a 2100 Max at the same time (one in my car and the other in my truck), so I'm familiar with both.

Neither one has what I'd call "lightning fast response" to the touch-screen, BUT one little-known trick that really gave both units a speed-boost for me was replacing their cheap SD cards with faster versions. The stock SD cards holding their map data are "class 2" at best. If you copy the data over to a class 4 or 5 type card, it will give much better performance.

All else being equal though? I could see a speed increase in my "Max" over the plain 2100 model, so they did put a faster processor in it. But you're going from "laggy response" to basically "a little less laggy", instead of "lag-free".

To me, the lack of immediate response when it's looking something up is far from a "deal breaker" on these units, though. It's a small annoyance, but not one I'd pay $100+ more to get rid of. Once you get an address put in and start driving, it responds just fine. (I've had other units that wouldn't tell you to turn until you PASSED the turn because they were too slow! Neither Navigon should ever do that to you.)

I was looking at this unit as an additional GPS to go along with my Fujitsu LOOX 100 which also uses the Navigon MN6 software. Until now. The 2100 MAX supposedly has a faster processor than the base 2100 which was supposed to overcome that "touch lag response" issue that is also found on the LOOX 100 running the Navigon software. Apparently this issue must be in the software if both systems developed over a two year period are exhibiting the same issue. I got an email solicitation today offering the 2100 Max on sale for $164. I thought it might be a good time to whip out the plastic. Now I'm not so sure. Not if it has the same laggy interface.
