Spike Lee is making a feature-length film shot entirely on cellphones. In this, the day when anyone can own a hi-def camera and make decent looking cinema, Lee is taking it down a notch. No, this is down, like, 23 notches, at least. And maybe a rung.
He’s an Oscar nominated director, and his idea is to “democratize” film making. He’s partnering with Nokia who will provide the phones.
He’s launched a website where anyone can upload their video for inclusion in the film. There will then be an online vote, and the top ten entries make it into the film.
This will end well.

Not as exciting as when Nokia got Gary Oldman to promote the N93

Kinda sad that in two years, mobile video quality improved at all.
Edit: mobile video quality hasn’t improved at all
Wow, finally my chance to be a big time film director! Now, all I have to do is find the most degrading shot I possibly can of a white person doing something stupid, and I’m in. But where to look…
I’ll just go downtown and find somebody using a Segway. And when that doesn’t work I’ll send in a clip from YouTube of a kid riding a bike head on into a wall.
