Video: iPod Touch playing OSX intro music

OK, this is rather odd. Yesterday afternoon I was leaving to pick up Peter Ha from the airport. I put my iPod Touch into it’s DLO VentMount, snapped in the Belkin car kit, and turned on my car. The iPod was already playing music. I thought it was weird but didn’t give it much thought until I realized the song it was playing isn’t anything on my iPod.

Then I realized what it was: the OSX welcome screen. Anyone who’s bought a new Mac has seen it, it plays with the “Welcome!” in several languages in a movie.

It’s hard to hear in this video, you’ll have to really turn your speakers up or get headphones, but that’s what it is. I’m not sure why it was playing, it just was. It turned itself off when I launched the Music application.

Any ideas out there why it happened? And how?

  • That.. is strange. Hmm I’ll look through my iPod Touch and see if I can find ‘intro-sound.mp3′ , thats the sound file’s name

  • Sweet! Makes me think the iPhone/touch will be getting OS X for reals. But thats just in my dreams.

  • Ok “find -name / “intro*” isn’t giving results, but I’d be interested to find out if the file is on there. Maybe the iPhone was supposed to play the OSX intro video? But Steve might have thought that was too confusing for users.
Now as to why it was playing… well, my iTouch gets ‘confused’ about album covers. Maybe it got ‘confused’ as to which system sound to play when it was put into a dock.

    • Yah, I’m still not sure what’s going on. It looped until I turned on the music/ipod app, then it kinda did a blank screen, then came up normal. I wish the video was better, but I only had an Ocean with me.
