iTunes Turns Five is a special iTunes section dedicated to celebrating the fifth birthday of iTunes. Fair enough. We had a Thomas the Tank Engine cake for my son, they have a web page. Well, it seems the first time they posted the page it said they had 10 million songs available on iTunes and a few days later they changed that to 6 million. Was it a typo? Were they counting podcasts? Did they secretly add and pull the entire Beatles catalog without telling us?
I’m going to say that a designer and marketers screwed up and they fixed it on the sly, but maybe they are just absolute mendicants not worthy of our respect. You decide.

I guess CrunchGear never makes any mistakes on their website. No, CrunchGear is run by superhuman beings who are always correct in their assertions, and are filtered by an editor who never lets anything but the gods honest truth seep to the web, devoid of titles that have no substance and are designed only to get page hits.
Yes, that was sarcasm. Next time CrunchGear throws some story out there that is innaccurate, expect the chorus of “lying liars or people who lie” to be directed in your way, CrunchGearers.
“mendicant”
Nice word choice.
Wow so much anger, why?, I believe you are the truly the first honest person living on this earth who has never tell a lie, cheat or even make a mistake. Sainthood for you when you passed on is assured.
In my books from now on John Biggs is the most honest tech writer in the worldwide web and probably the richest too otherwise he is not qualified to call a company with 19$B a beggar.
“Just a typo”? That’s what they want you to believe…
Actually, the ten million numbers comes from the fact that Steve has gone into the future and collected all the music for the next 4 years. That way, when the artists eventually get around to writing, recording, and releasing them, they will already automatically be available.
“Just a typo.” Yeah, right…
:^D
If the worst you have to say about Apple is that there was a typo on their Web site (which they corrected) then it’s really going to unbelievable lengths to write an article slamming Apple, and calling them liars over this.
Perhaps you have an unbalanced and biased view against Apple.
Yes. We hate apple here at crunchgear. HATE HATE HATE IT!
Haven’t you heard about rounding? 10^6 is the same value as 6^5 when rounding to one significant figure. Just think, a year or two ago they had 0 songs when applying the same rounding rules. Simply amazing! – that by adding one song at the 5 millionth mark, they went from nothing to ten million in less than a few seconds,
Man I can’t wait for the 3g iphone. Its gonna be so awesome…
Good catch John. Why these fanboys so angry with you just because you pay attention to stuff? Sheesh.
And yes, that was a good use of the word “mendicant.”
My first and last time on crunch gear. They are right up there with ZDNet.
wow, just as bad as zdnet. get a grip there bucko. i thought it was goofy that just bc they mistakenly said 10 instead of 6 they get called out.. at the end of the day, what does it really matter if they’ve sold 6 or 10mil? they still beat any other legit music site.
ZDNet is a bunch of choads along with Apple. I hope they both end up drunk in Tijuana and buy bad insulin and die!
Who gives a shit. Slow news day?
If it said 10 billion … that would be a lie.
@pedant…sorry I mean John Biggs
The world is full of sad characters, but you take the biscuit.
Try going out, meet people, have a walk, get wet in the rain….. get a life for goodness sake and stop this cycle of self harm.
