Everyone is talking about how wonderful sprint, as a carries is and i don't agree. I had sprint first and they drove me nuts. Yeah i guess the simply everything plan is great, but i don't know how it works if you have two lines... I had to shell out $400 a month for 3 months just to keep my phone on because of a $150 credit limit that i had. Lame... so i switched and i have been a VERY HAPPY ATT customer for at least 3 years with no crazy problems.

my boss at work has the instinct and i was the first to have the iphone at my job. Call me bias but i think my phone is easier to use. Also, i like the updates that you get with the Iphone. They are constantly adding new features that anyone with any version of the iphone can get. I don't know how the instinct works. (plus the commercials are better. such a lame thing to say, but companies pay billions of dollars a year on, IT WORKS. )

I agree with whoever down there, sprint looked at all the things that the iphone couldn't do and made it do that. Good for them, but they were just trying to compete and came in second with nothing new, just the same stuff the iphone offered. When its all said and done, the instinct will always be a knock-off.

Apple is a very innovated company. Like it or not, they have made devices that have defined our technological generation....(any brand of MP3 player will always get referred to as an Ipod). They continue to make user friendly devices and create new ways of making all of our entertainment devices better. They will continue to be the leader in innovative technology and everyone else will follow along like they have been. Go steve jobs.

Hi, how did you go about jailbreaking your phone and negotiating such a competitive plan? I'm looking to get the 3G iPhone in a month, but don't want to get screwed.

I can't help but laugh at the people who are complaining that the Instinct can't edit spreadsheets or produce cinema quality films or solve differential equations or butter toast. And of course, all of the complaints are coming from people who bought iPhones, which also can do none of these things. These are phones for college kids. They call, they text, they take grainy pics of some girl's boobs at the bar -that's all they are made for. Those of you claiming to be "serious professionals" who got an iPhone for it's business savvy are dolts...if you were "real" business people, you'd have gotten a Palm, or a BlackBerry, or something with real apps and a real O/S. As for the supposed "issues" the Instinct has, I haven't seen them. Mine works flawlessly in my part of the country, Atlanta. So if you are having problems, it may be the network in your area. Also, 3G is a protocol, not magic pixy dust. It standardizes connection routines. If your phone has it, and my phone has it, they are equal in that area, period.

iphone will not work on sprint, even jailbreaked because sprint is CDMA and does not use sim cards. You'll occasionally see a sprint phone that will accpet a sim card, but those are dual/tri/or quad band phones that work internationally.

NAHHHHH IM back to my IPhone Dont get me wrong the instinct is a good phone, But is not even close, I paid off my contract w AT&T just to get the INSTINCT but after a month IM BACK on the IPHONE. This time using TMOBILE people. Tmobile offers are good, better than AT$T and similar to Sprint.

As far of the Iphone even the firt generation of IPHONE IS way better thant the instinct. for the following reasons:

The TV on SPRINT INSTINCT is BADDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD.
The Touch Screen on the Instinct is not even close to the one on Iphone.
The quality on music is way better on the IPHONE.
The Music covers are something out of this word (IPHONE). Bad on the INSTINCT.....oh God BAD.

The Instinct is A good phone but not to be compare w the master.....IPHONE.

Biggest thing the instinct has over the iphone is Sprint itself.

I wanted an iPhone, but after the hell AT&T put me through, I bought an instinct. You can read all the details of that at my blog

http://cto-rebelemonkey.blogspot.com

(No, I'm not trying to drive traffic, its just way too long a story to post here.)

Btw. my Instinct DOES do live TV.

Does anyone know why our country is run by an illiterate pasty monkey? It's because of those same consumers you so admirably mentioned. Iphone didn't have all the features because they knew exactly how to grab hold of the "consumer" mentality, "Ooooo... pretty" A friendly UI is what the masses need. Just because you use a Mac or have an Iphone does not elevate your intellect. In fact it means that you were most likely spending most of your time on the phone with Help Desk wondering if you needed to register your registry. Sprint service is great, they've mastered the mobile phone necessities in order to provide a true cellular experience. Apple is the yech genius that brings brilliance and ingenuity to everything they create, but I'll be damned if I get on my knees just because something "looks pretty"... please stop being consumers

7/17 4:00pm bought INSTINCT via SPRINT Tele Sales. Expl I wanted new upgrade but retian my SERO plan. Rep said cld sell INSTINTC w/2 yr agreement.
7/17 9:00 pm SPRINT suspends service! Call SPRINT they appoligize, said system ackoledges Sales, suspended in error.
7/18 8:30 am SPRINT sends text msg threatening to SUSPEND service.
Call SPRINT - after going though 2 reps 2nd acknowledges SPRINT error. $15 "We're sorry" credit
7/22 2:00 pm INSTINCT arrives. Call SPRINT to activate. Rep says can't on my existing SERO plan. Need to upgrade to $99.00 plan. Rep transfers me to Rentention dept to see if they can help. Retention Rep states "You should have even been sold the phone on your plan, $99.00 plan only option".

I was on the phone for a total of over 5 hours. I'm filing a PUC complaint, already complained via SPRINT web site which was of no use.

This is all true and not a SPRINT basher. Actually an ex Sprint employee that was spun off when the local side became new company. Now shopping for new cell company but doubt I'll bother with anythng other than a basic phone. Rather use my IPOD, Digital camera and lap top then go through this again.

PS - Phone looks great - but regretfully same lousy Customer Service!

I agree Paul. At least you ahve sense. To those who think teh advantage to Apple is how long they been out with their phone is just another stupid analopy. Why? Sony beat Nintendo and Sega in its first year with the original Playstation. Microsoft is beating Sony with it's second generation system agaist Sony's 3rd. In fact Nintendo proved it was best to release a system after another company so you can show how much the previous company is horrible.

Iphone is poular bec it is what it is. But it isn't better. They simply had no one to compete with. They are using technology that was made by someone else. Palm alreday had touch screen phones. So Apple touch screen is no big deal. They just used prettier icons and ppl went ape over it. The glitz of the package of this overprices itunes player ios what the hype was all about. Most ppl didnt even know what teh iphone could and couldnt do. they simply bought it bec it is a unique looking beautiful phone. n\but as with anything that is pretty outside, once you get it home you find ot what a headache it is to own it. Ask any male moviestar. The Instinct has yet to have software issues. Apple is still fixing Ipod issues whicg is all eth iphone is. Its an IPOD that you can make calls on. I decide i would rather have teh itouch, but when instinct came out, I see i ave teh benefit of all of Apple portable products and more. The ipod phone is a awesome toy, but teh instinct is even more so. The iphone is son't ps2 and instinct is ms xbox. It isn't better maybe by name, it is better in what you get.

As another said...to get full use of the iphoe it would cost you $200 permonth and u still wont have all that instinct offers.

To be far unlike most people who buy Apple products and who are kissing Steve's a$$ like they are getting paid by him, I will take a much fairere approach.

At first I thought the biggest downside to Iphone was the price. Beacause that is true of all of Apple's hardware. You get less for the money, much like teh old IBm days.

Instinct proves you can get more of hwta is important for less. To start. WiFi. Unless you love Itunes which i don't, not having WIFI means you won't be able to install 3rd party appz unless approved by Steve. And I though he promotes choice. Sure his choices. What about yours?

No camera? thus no recording of videos. For a phone that cost $500 that i plan to take everywhere whay was this left out? Reminded me of the Mac Air. A $3000 laptop and it doesn't have an integrated CDROM. How am I suppose to install appz Steve? Suppose I don't want to carry an extra bag Steve?

I don't care about Sprint's Network carrying TV, as I have thought from the beginning watching TV on a phone is just plain stupid.

The Instinct's ability to use a 8GB memory card that costs about $40, brings the cost of the Instinct up to the cost of an Iphone. But how many songs do you really need to carry around? Both phones have the software that allows you to swap tunes without doing much.

The biggest downside to Iphone is the network it is on. AT&T dispite all the money in teh communicaton world has the crappiest network. Sprint's network is more accesible and is the largest to date and it is the fastest over both AT&T and Verizon.

GPS Navigation. For 1/2 the cost of an Iphone I can install one in my car. But what do I do when I am not in my car? Apple doesn't even offer this feature at all. While one person comment I read somewhere else said the Instinct has a bunch of Apple ripped appz, that couldn't be far from the truth. Several software companies make similar programs so they are obvious going to be similar. Like Windows vs Mac OS.

Instinct beats Iphone in feature and physical device speed. That is where it end. Instinct has better functions, tho setting them up requires additonal steps while Apple's is more automated like Blackberry. At least Samsung believes that if you want it done right, you can do it yourself. And it will cost you less in the long run.

The phone plane. Sprint's all in one plan that covers everything this phone does is cheaper then all the plans AT&T offers even with the new latest Iphone.

The physical design of teh phone itself isn't a debate. The iphone looks better. But Instincts slimmer design is has a better feel in the hand and if I drop and break it, getting it replaced is going to be way easier.

Issue with email are about the same as it is with any smartphone. if you use proprietory email like Exchange and Lotus Notes you will always have issues. To make a fully fuctionally java based program that can work with those would drive the cost of the phone to an easy $800 to cover what IBM and Microsoft would charge to license the technology.

The biggest complaint I have seen about Instinct on Sprint's site is the email issues. Those issues are do to teh proprietory nature of the ompanies behind them. But instinct will be offering a Lotus solution very soon. Exclusive to Instinct. Sorry Apple.

The overall cost of ownership will be better with teh Sprint phone. If teh iphone is broken you have to either find a Apple Store that most are only in big cities and not isolated areas. Which means you'll have to mail it in. Whereas Sprint stores can be found in almost any town even in teh middle of nowhere and they are at most large malls and even smaller ones. Even At&T can't match it even with there Cingular stores. It's one of those cases where you get what you pay for and sometimes you don't. Sprint's customer services beat Apple's and AT&T hands down. Sprint even dedicated a line to Instinct owners on the release to handle teh overwhelming demand.

And this is more personal. The biggest downside to Iphone is Apple itself. It is all about what Steve wants and what he will allow. Giving you no choice. And he complains about Microsoft? You have no choice of carrier, no choice of appz. Yes teh Instinct is exclusive to Sprint, but there us a Verizon version, tho it isn't as nice. But it is however and alternative. Apple making Iphone only to AT&T sealed its death, just like they did with Mac OS. Windows is only where it is because IBM got smart and cloned teh PC with other OEM's, something Apple refused to do. That iw hy they are at the bottom of teh gene pool. Yes thgey make good ideas but they suck more than help. I still however want an iphone, but I now have something better. I even considered paying teh $200 to get out my Sprint contract. But the fact is what i have is overall better.

It really just comes down to choice. Both have advantages over the other, it just depends on your usage. If you are an itunes lover than iphone is obviously the better choice. But music is what it is and itunes isnt teh only option for it. Since i have choice I can use my phone with any music service period. You can with iphone to a point. But without wifi, ur limited.

Companies that are making software for Instinct were turned down by Apple. Insincts appz are going to grow. the iphone will simply sell bec of its look and being first. But Samsung shows a great deal of muscle.

The biggest downside to Instinct is I can't add my own ring tones.

To be far unlike most people who buy Apple products and who are kissing Steve’s a$$ like they are getting paid by him, I will take a much fairere approach.

At first I thought the biggest downside to Iphone was the price. Beacause that is true of all of Apple’s hardware. You get less for the money, much like teh old IBm days.

Instinct proves you can get more of hwta is important for less. To start. WiFi. Unless you love Itunes which i don’t, not having WIFI means you won’t be able to install 3rd party appz unless approved by Steve. And I though he promotes choice. Sure his choices. What about yours?

No camera? thus no recording of videos. For a phone that cost $500 that i plan to take everywhere whay was this left out? Reminded me of the Mac Air. A $3000 laptop and it doesn’t have an integrated CDROM. How am I suppose to install appz Steve? Suppose I don’t want to carry an extra bag Steve?

I've been hearing that the issue with the Iphone's battery which started with the first generation, has yet to be resolved. Accordingly to what I have heard ( rumors?) that the battery does not hold a charge well and requires replacement much sooner than other phones. Any truth?

Wonderful debate, Entitle it Tap phone Vs Touch Phone. Or may be Samsung will send some Calorie bars to substitute calories wasted taping this damn phone.

And look at the Big border, Apple has sleek design. I cannot understand why only the customer sees the beauty in iphone. They should have worked on aesthetics of the instinct.

Good parts, watch tv on sprint network. Who really has the time ?

It's funny. The Instinct is about the same price of the iPhone 3G, after $100 rebate.

Everyone copies apple on everything, basically. Instinct is just another copy. Like New York-style pizza vs. actual pizza from New York, the original is always better. Hell, even the buffering animation that Sprint uses in their videos on Instinct's website is the animation that Apple has used for over a decade on their Macs to indicate that their bios is loading (YouTube, and most flash videos now, uses something similar, but Sprint's is the closest knock-off I've seen. I think it's just sad when companies have to try to clone another companies innovations to be successful.

Also, it won't have a multi-touch screen, sync-ability with iTunes, you'll probably have to pay $20-30/month for GPS, and $15-$20/month for the live tv, $15/month for a broadband data plan, $15-20/month to get e-mail on the phone, you'll probably only be able to sync 1 contact at a time with your computer, you won't have live voicemail (which i think is the biggest killer app for iPhone), you probably won't get full webpages but rather mobile versions like most phones and if you do get full webpages it will probably be as big of a pain to view them as it is on a Blackberry. With the iPhone, you get all of this (minus live tv) for a $9.99/month data plan.

Also, live tv on your phone is a gimmick. People aren't going to want to watch live tv on their phone when they have their tivo to download it at home or bittorrent (it's legal to "share" television shows, btw)/iTunes to download it and watch it whenever they want. If you're on the go you don't want to be tied to a wviewing schedule, you don't have time for that. Maybe you want to know the news or the weather, but if you're mobile the internet is a much better place to find that than TV. Also, i don't know anybody who records video with their phones except when they first buy it to test out the gimmick. And the quality will probably be terrible and you'll have a restriction of probably 1-2 minutes of recording time. Get a CCD miniDV or HDD camera, they're pretty cheap now and much better for capturing those "special moments".

Other things apple invented: The GUI, the mouse, the "creative (non-business) application", the HDD mp3 player, the first non-linear video editing system, the first highly accessible pay-to-download music store, the DVI monitor system (apple has used DVI since before 1995, Microsoft-based PCs just started to convert from the inferior VGA ports around 2004), the first palm-top PDA, the first hand-writing recognition system, the "track-pad" (found in your laptop computer), the first printer, NeXT, the list goes on and on.

I was readig and over all I cant belive what I am hearing. Sprint vs Apple? Cut it out!!!! they are two diff. things. 1st Sprint does not make the phone samsung does. Now if you want to compare sprint do so with AT&T and we all know who will win that one. Now if you want you can campare apple with samsung then you might have a good case. But saying sprint will never be able to "make" a better phone than the Iphone...They DO NOT MAKE PHONES....

First of all my brother is an Apple person and I'm a PC person and we can still be civil. I use an iPod and I own the Instinct. The Instinct is a great phone but there are a couple of things that Samsung should add to the phone.

#1. Being able to get my email from work without having to be logged on and running the desktop connector thing.

#2. I wish I could open pdf and other microsoft office files. One would think that microsoft would jump at the chance to back a phone that wasn't an Apple product but what do I know?

#3. A flash for the camera. I mean seriously my old Samsung MM-7500 I got three years ago had a far better camera.

All things considered though I love the phone. If you are an Apple fan you will probably stick with the iPhone but the Instinct turned out to be a very good phone for what I needed it for.
