		<description>I&#039;ve heard similar arguments about the iphone et al. threatening the internet. the rationale is that instead of building stuff that runs on everyone&#039;s internet developers are now lured to make device-specific apps. so a significant amount of the global pool of creativity won&#039;t benefit the user community at large but only a limited number of users. 
while it makes sense on paper, from a game industry perspective competition between proprietary consoles have done more good than harm in the last 30 years. if all we had were pcs with keyboard and mouses, we&#039;d be lucky to have a text-mode GTA IV in 2008.</description>

		<description>I think Jonathan is worrying about the wrong thing. What is changing is that we&#039;re in the transition phase away from one model of computing and towards another. Away from the desktop and general use computing device and towards cloud and ubiquitous computing. Unlike Jonathan I think rise of the embedded device is not going to threaten the Internet, or our ability to tinker with our gadgets. It just means the skill set you need to be a hacker is different today than it was last year or the year before. This is news?
