We’ve all done it, accidentally dialed someone with our cellphone while it’s in a pocket or bag, but this soldier in Afghanistan went one better. Stuck in a firefight against Taliban insurgents, he accidentally pocket-dialed his parents back home, leaving a three-minute recording of the combat on their answering machine.

He lived through it, but the recording itself is quite interesting. You can hear shouts of “More ammo!” and “Incoming!”

I hope this never happens to me.

it sounded fake to me, the voices were a bit to clear, almost like they were inside, but the gunfire wasn’t as loud as one would expect if fired inside. After a few google searches it appears to be real though.

Fakeistan! wow cell service in Afghanistan to a U.S. GI. Even if he could get cell service which I doubt, the military would never ever allow it. Yeah I can see it now, the taliban captures a soldier and they pull out his or her cell phone hit redial and call their spouse, girlfriend/boyfriend or parents to let them know he or she got captured… get serious. :/

  • Well if it’s true, it would be a hell of a thing to come home to as a parent. And either way, those boys over there deserve our respect and attention. It’s far too easy to just not even think about what they’re going through, and what their families are going through.
