I tried to run a full clean install of windows xp media center (to replace the HP oem version) only to have my tv tuner card poop on me. so i stuck with the HP oem windows xp mce. just my luck. You know who’s fault this it?

you know.. its really HP’s fault by being cheap and just running intel drivers on their AMD machines.

I tried to run a full clean install of windows xp media center (to replace the HP oem version) only to have my tv tuner card poop on me. so i stuck with the HP oem windows xp mce. just my luck.

So, there is hope for people having this issue. I guess this will teach us not to have automatic updates on? While I'm not seeing endless reboots, the machine suddenly powers off just as windows starts to load which - as I understand it - is one of the symptoms. Until I read about this issue this morning I'd assumed there was a hardware issue. The unfortunate thing here is that we're getting further evidence that consumers have to be a bit more weary about automatic updates. Between console system updates, new versions of software and other major updates which brick hardware we're seeing that we can't trust corporate QA - we have to wait until the update is out in the wild and do our own value vs. risk assessments.
