Will iPhone 2 get Intel’s Atom? Ja!
by Matt Hickey on May 14, 2008

My German is a bit rusty, but apparently this is someone’s interpretation of what the iPhone 2 will look like. It also claims that it will run Intel’s Atom processor, which is logical. What’s really neat is a claim that the iPhone will have a larger screen, with resolution up to full 480p. While not much in the home theater world, it’s pretty badass for a PMP.

How much of this is truth? I’m not sure, and Babelfish isn’t helping, but if any of our readers can speak German and help out some more, you’re welcome to the comments.

  • To date, most (believable) rumors have implied that this upcoming iteration of the iPhone will be a minor bump to 3G with increased capacity, and maybe a second camera on the front. I’m skeptical that they would be switching processors and changing resolution at this point. Both of those changes would require significant updates to the iPhone software and make backwards compatibility difficult.

  • basically the article says:

    intel-exec states
    yes,
there will be a atom-based iphone.
display resolution will be 720×480, causing the phone to be slighty larger than the old model.
still the old model will be continued.

  • Just cause the display is 720×480 does not mean the phone is any larger or more streched. You also need to know the dot pitch. Depending on the dot pitch the new display could be any size or shape.

  • john:
don’t think his statement was meant as an official announcement.. although the guy is german intel-ceo..

    chuck:
the model is going to be larger than the current version. it’s what the guy said.
