No day is complete without some sort of Comcast-bashing; I oblige.
A German study has found that BitTorrent blocking really only occurs in two countries, here in the U.S. and in Singapore. Moreover, only cable ISPs bother to block BitTorrent traffic. The ISPs? Why, none other than Comcast and Cox, the two darlings of American Internet access.
The study, conducted by the Max Planck Institute, examined worldwide BitTorrent behavior and further affirmed what we already know, especially here in the U.S.: cable ISPs limit or disable uploading (as opposed to downloading… good luck with that ratio, kids) via BitTorrent by using RST packets.
What’s most interesting, perhaps, is that the study’s results conflicts with Comcast’s supposed justification for traffic blocking. The ISP said it only interrupts BitTorrent traffic during peak hours, when network strain is at its highest. Well then, Comcast, care to explain this graph, which shows that you block traffic single hour of the day?
And what about this one that shows BitTorrent blocking every day of the week, and not just those busy pesky weekdays?
As the world turns, I suppose.
Also, I cannot endorse Usenet any more enthusiastically given the above.

Bit torrent blocking on Comcast is a thing of a past. It was only an issue for a handful of people that used extremely excessive amounts of bandwidth every month, and was only put into place to make sure other paying Comcast customers on the same node as them, would have an equal amount of bandwidth to share.
Comcast no longer blocks Bit Torrent in any way.

Comcast no longer blocks bittorrent? GARBAGE! AND, you’re full of garbage. Comcast shuts me down every time I use a btclient. Yet when I just surf the web there’s no problem at all with no disconnects.
When FIOS is available I am so gone from Comcast in every way!
Comcast torrent blocking is NOT a thing of the past. I thought there was a legal ruling that banned Comcast from blocking torrents. Apparently Comcast is above the law.
My “comcastic” internet connection works fine for months at a time, until I start downloading torrents. Within a half hour of starting to download torrents my internet connection dies, not just the torrents, but internet, e-mail, EVERYTHING!!!
The only way to restore access is by unplugging my modem, and then everything works fine… until I start downloading a torrent again and it all repeats itself.
If this isn’t torrent blocking, I don’t know what is. And I’m not one of those “handful of people that used extremely excessive amounts of bandwidth every month.” I download torrents 3-4 times a month. I would hardly call that excessive.
I am paying for a service that I am not receiving and am not the least bit happy about it.
Concast has blocked my bittorent traffic. I can download fine but I cannot seed. I pay them about $250/pm for cable/IP phone/Internet. I am actively looking for AtnT DSL as an alternative. Although DSL is slower than cable, but they do not disable bittorrent traffic..
