Genuinely funny, last night’s episode of The Office (Hulu link) showcased the gravity of the situation between Apple and NBC. The long and short of it is, Michael wanted to create a mix CD using “M3Ps” for the office’s new human resources guy, who’s actually a girl; Michael falls in love with her immediately, or “love at first see with my ears.” Rather than download the songs from iTunes (or BitTorrent), he used AmazonMP3!
The humanity!

Not sure how things work in other offices, but in my office, we can’t even install iTunes, and even if we could, the iTunes store is blocked, along with Gmail, Yahoo! Mail, MySpace, etc etc. But Amazon works just fine.
Interesting to note as well that the office is one of those fairly rare shows where the computers shown aren’t Macs (24 also comes to mind). But then again, who would believe that there is actually an office at a paper company that uses anything other than Dells or HP’s?
And isn’t there an episode of the Office where a video iPod is the centerpiece of a secret santa thing?

Why is it a surprise they would show Amazon instead of iTunes? Amazon is a better service.
People that know the facts use Amazon.com for mp3 downloads. It is all DRM-free, has a better selection, and is much better priced. Why would anyone not use it? Answer: because they have been stupidly blinded by the iTune’s (previous) online music monopoly.

Well, considering Michael said he was looking for “M3Ps,” I doubt he’s an expert on digital music downloads. That said, your passion for the subject is apparent and very much appreciated.

Yeah Amazon MP3 is definitely the way to go because of their DRM-free songs. I used to use iTunes as well to buy my songs but Amazon has made it so freaking simple to purchase songs off their website and then sync them directly into your itunes. Way to go Amazon!

It’s a surprise because the LAST time Michael was listening to music on his computer (clicking James Blunt over and over) he WAS using iTunes.
