Why Apple’s industrial design puts others to shame

iveimac

“We’ll take the time to get the product right.”

You wanna know why Apple’s designs are so lauded, why they make so many competitor’s products look like junk? It’s because of the mentality expressed in the above quote. Apple cares. More specifically, senior vice president of industrial design Jonathan Ive cares. His works include the iMac and iPhone. You may have heard of those.

So yeah, the Independent’s running a very magazine-y feature on Apple design boss Ive. There’s artful discussion of pencils—awards—and what makes Apple so damn special with its eye-catching designs. For his part, Ive wants only “to try to make products that really are meaningful to people.”

You’ll also run into Ive’s views on how advertising and design play off each other, and why quality ID comes so easily to Apple.

I’m actually a PC user, but I must say that if PC companies put in as much effort and waited appropriately for releasing a product as Apple did then the PCs wouldn’t be loosing so much market share.

It seems like every laptop I’ve used recently has been bug riddled, but then again, I guess that is probably just because they are running Vista. Let me just say the lappys would look better and be smaller.

Yes, some of Apple designs are very nice, but some of the designs are just stupid. I think it true that Apple could produce a dog turd on a stick and most Apple fans would swoon over it. There have been other companies that have produced very nice designs, but because there’s not a used piece of fruit on the front they are overlooked. Sony for one has had some very attractive designs, there are others.
