I use Dragon 9.5 on my XP and Vista machines, experiment with MacSpeech Dictate on my Mac but most often use the free speech technology shipped with all flavors of Vista. Contrary to the botched Microsoft demo and general bad press for Vista, the Vista Speech technology is heads and shoulders above all others in ease of use, correction options and almost as accurate as the $200 Dictate. I believe you will find confirmation of my observation reading comments posted by David Pogue.

I have posted videos using Vista Speech under VMWare on my Mac as well on my HP Vista tower (videos are posted under iNetSynch).

MacSpeech Dictate uses the Nuance speech engine technology but is by no means a Mac clone of Dragon for Windows. It has no correction or spell options and two very nasty bugs apparently known to MacSpeech before it was shipped as a 1.0 release.

The mic in the photo above is a special device used by court reporters. They use Dragon to dictate court proceedings as they happen (instead of a stenographer). The mask allows them to dictate without disturbing the people around them.

The mic being used in the first photo looks pretty unusual, as though it's intended either for noisy environments, or for environments that you don't want to MAKE noisy by dictating. Any info on what it is?
