Speech is still not ready for widespread end user adoption, touch will be the next UI paradigm. I actually wrote about this today today on my blog.

There are some good visuals in the movie 'Iron Man' where Tony Stark is interacting with his 3D CAD system with gestures and voice. I don't think that something like that is too difficult to achieve.

Stress sensing interaction has been used by the US Air Force since the 80's.

Voice recognition is fairly advanced, and there is an open source project going on someplace. We could put the software in our phones, which then 'learns' our speech patterns and sends text out to the web. Then we could stream that output and feed it back to a real-time word processor and watch the result.

I think that wearable computing coupled with wireless communication is the direction that we are swiftly headed towards. That would allow us to do our work while taking a hike or other activity, instead of sitting on our butt. We may look like the Borg soon, but I think it will be tastefully done, with silver, gold and diamonds. And of course everyone will be expected to keep a nice tan.

Oh yeah, I've got gray hair and use Windows. LOL!
But in the past I have used about 15 different OS's, Windows just won the war for a while.
