I know the firm that does PP for CSI, and the shows whores themselves out like few others in H'wood. HP, Cisco, Plantronics all recently had what they consider "great" results from their product placement in the show (how the hell do they measure that?). Microsoft uses the same firm, and paid to get SOME kind of developer-related messaging to the scripts, somwhere. Simple answer: Product Placement.
