Has anyone tried editing HD1010 output in Pinnacle? I've read somewhere that the frame rate makes it difficult/impossible?

Yeah, and I've seen some phonecams that claim to be five megapixel. Doesn't work there, either.

Google for "megapixel myth".

The HD1010 is actually 1080p and not 1080i, according to Sanyo's website, Amazon and others. This makes it the first consumer camcorder that shoots true 1080p that I'm aware of...!

Has anyone here actually bought and used a Sanyo Xacti HD-1 or HD-1a, or other experience with Sanyo Xacti video cameras?

I have an HD-1, and it is pretty much completely and totally worthless. The compression is so high that the video is essentially unwatchable, even if recorded from a tripod. It performs horribly in anything less than melt-your-eyeballs direct sunlight.

I'd prefer to have a phonecam video that was taken hand-held than the Sanyo Xacti. I can't speak for the so-called 2nd generation unit that we have the cheerleader press release for here, but IMO Sanyo is literally committing a crime by advertising the HD-1 and HD-1a as "HD video cameras".

I can't imagine that they've been able to improve things by enough to get out of "committing a crime" territory, but maybe we just have to see.

Thanks Matthew. I wonder if there is any HD camera out there that's ideally suited for rapid editing with iMovie '08 (i.e. without conversion).

The MPEG-4 is standard MPEG-4, so it's not suitable for editing in iMovie without conversion.

iMovie has to process MPEG-4 into Apple Intermediate Video Codec before it can let you edit it, because of the way MPEG-4 makes frames depend on previous frames.

(I have the 720p Sanyo Xacti.)

I wonder if this MPEG4 format is suitable for direct use in iMovie '08 without conversion. Has anyone done that with the HD1000 model? I was looking at Sony's line of AVCHD camera's but I'm worried about import time. If everything has to be converted to AIC by iMovie before you edit, then it's a moot point.
