Amazon’s site has been down off and on today, completely out of service. The company’s been mum on the topic, but it went down shortly after the Playstation 3/Metal Gear Solid 4 bundle the fans have been drooling over went on sale. Gamers in the PS3 forums have been speculating that the demand for the bundle is at fault.
It makes sense that the fanboys would be all trying to get their orders in, as there are only a limited amount of units rumored to be available. The game is going to be one of the hottest of the year, despite the 15 hour load time and 54 hours worth of cut scenes.
Until we get official word from Amazon, which might never happen, we’ll never know for sure, but it sure sounds like something that could happen when fanboys get into a tizzy.

The game does not have a 15hour install time. It does have a 4.5GB install which should take somewhere around 20minutes. Also it does not have 54 hours of cutscenes. The game’s runtime is somewhere over 40 hours, and 10-15 hours of it is cutscenes.
I think you might have missed the note of sarcasm in matt’s post.
Man just nixed my pre-order due to the 15 hour install time.
If you’re going to miss out on a great game just because you have to wait 10 minutes before you can start playing I really don’t know what to tell you dude. Go read a book or something I hear they don’t have any load times at all ;)
Silly fanboys, your pre-orders did not crash Amazon’s site, as popular as you think your game is, it’s nowhere near the highest volume of traffic the site has had to deal with without a problem.
CNN, the news agency claims that an Amazon customer service representative said the site was down for “an upgrade of the company’s Web site.”
It actually has an 8-minute install time and 2-3 minutes between chapters. The cutscenes are about half the game. (just clarifying, I get the sarcasm).
I was one of the people sitting hitting refresh and waiting for the item to be buyable. The second it appeared, I hit the “add to cart” button, and I was already too late. Then the site went down a minute or two later.
Wow, thats complete utter bull. MGS4 does not have a 12 hour install or 54 hours of cutscenes(the game is only 29hours, and only 1/3 is cutscenes). This post is by someone who hates Metal Gear right off the bat. “Fanboys” putting in thier order? No not fanboys, try the massive gaming public all around the world. The install time is 8 minutes, then 2-3 minute installs between acts(there are 5 acts), small price to pay for a game like that. These people are doing everything they can to bash MGS4. they need to just be honest that its a good game that will be very successful, if not just sit down and shut up.
Maybe it’s just me, but it’s pretty hard to detect any sarcasm in this article. There is absolutely no indication that anything should not be taken seriously.
Either way, the writer comes off as a douche.
Wow you guys need to lighten up a bit! Surely no-one (not even the most deluded Xbox-fanboy) would take a 15-hour install time and 54-hour cut scene seriously! The fact the figures are so fanciful is what gives this article sarcasm!
Speaking of installs, the initial one is quite short as they are split throughout the game. The reason Konami asked reviews not to discuss them is because some of them are more than just static install screens. We all know how creative Kojima can be when it comes to thinking “outside the box”, like the boss where you needed to change controller ports to bypass it’s psychic powers, so in a weird way I’m looking forward to seeing how he has been creative with the install screens!
I’ve seen a brief clip of one during a TV preview of the game which was of Snake having a cigarette break and reminding you that it’s important to take regular breaks!
