That new iPhone that’s more than likely coming out on Monday will be available in 64 more countries by the end of the year, if MSNBC is to be believed.

Currently the iPhone is only (officially) available in the US, Germany, France, Britain, Austria and Ireland. We know that Japan and Canada are next up, with rumors of other countries coming all the time. But with the new iPhone 2, as we’re calling it, the distribution could be truly global.

This is good for two reasons. One, it helps Apple really take on other cellphone makers and set more of the trends that the original iPhone already has. And two, it means a higher volume of individual units, which would keep prices down for everyone.

That’s ambitious for anyone, but if there’s one adjective that fits Jobs and his Apple crew, that’s it.
