Jenn over at Pocketables has some news about a mobile Internet device called the “Digifriends MID” that’s set to show up here in the US “very soon,” according to a company spokesperson. While this device was originally shown way back at CES and might look like another dopey, no-keyboard MID, it’s got an interesting array of snap-on accessories; a QWERTY keyboard with a built-in battery extender, a stand (shown above) that charges the battery, a stereo speaker attachment, GPS attachment, and a UCC editor. I have no idea what a UCC editor is, but I bet that I probably need one.

The specs of the device itself are; Intel Atom CPU at 1.2 GHz, 4.8-inch 1024×600 touchscreen, 1GB RAM, 30GB to 60GB hard drive, WiMAX, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, front and rear webcams, TV-out, VGA-out, and compatibility with XP, Vista, or Linux.

Of note is that the device will apparently be sold “with contracted sales through Sprint and NextWave,” which makes the built-in WiMAX connection a lot more interesting now. No word on exact pricing or availability, but if Sprint’s going to try to push WiMAX service with this thing, it may very well be subsidized in some way or another.
