Don’t laugh, but Microsoft says that, as far as 3G phones are concerned, it’s got the iPhone 3G (and BlackBerry) beat. I said don’t laugh, silly!

Yup, in an interview with the San Francisco Chronicle, the head of Microsoft’s entertainment and devices division—the guy responsible for Windows Mobile and Zune—said that the iPhone 3G doesn’t scare Microsoft since so many WinMo phones ship with 3G already. You know, all those phones that have near zero cachet outside the immediate tech community. You can picture your non-tech friends talking about, and raving about the iPhone, but can you see them doing the same over some WinMo device? Thought not.

Says the gentleman:

We ship lots of 3G phones already on Windows Mobile and have for some time. So we continue driving the path we are driving with Windows Mobile and we are very excited about the approach we have taken this year. About 20 million devices will ship with Windows Mobile on it. We will outsell the iPhone. We will outsell the BlackBerry.

Additionally, don’t expect a “Zune phone” anytime soon. Crushing, yes.

Turning all this on its head, is anyone else disappointed with the iPhone 3G? Like, it’s the same damn phone, just a little faster and with GPS. You mean to tell me that Apple couldn’t have launched such a phone last year, that the relevant technologies have evolved so quickly in 12 months?

  • ok the lady in pink is microsoft and she looks like she has little man syndrome. So in other words the guy walking pink lady is apple and hes all like there there its ok and shes like nah F” that I can make it and totally woop on everybody. Does that come anywhere near what you had in mind.

  • Much like Oedipus, hubris seems to be the theme at Microsoft right now?

  • Whatever empty suit is the VP of Zune, I want that on his headstone:

I was responsible for Zune: Don’t hate me.

  • Deleon your just asking for it with comments like that at the end. I’m surprised the masses haven’t descended on this post already.

  • the painting represents a pimp and a whore that charges too much for her services, and the people around her don’t want her to up her prices in the hood she’s in, and the pimp is protecting her from the jealous hookers and poor men who can’t afford that shiz!

the pimp walks her to her corner, where she will be selling her stuff for all to have. but only for those who will pay willingly.

this represents 3G technology, amongst a crappy economy that no one really can afford, and everyone is switching to prepaid so they don’t have to sweat they’re credit with phone companies that will screw you if you miss a payment to use them.

  • Maybe instead of bashing M$ you should try to explain why you think they’re wrong. They are correct that they do sell more phones and they have had more features than the iphone for years. I’d much rather have my WinMo phone (which I’ve had for ~3 years) that has more features than give it all up for an iphone that is indeed shiny, but much less useful and more expensive device. Call me crazy, but I buy my gadgets based on what they do, not how pretty they are.

    • Ahh.. More expensive? You jumped the gun by one day on that one buddy… The new iPhone sells for 199 8GB, 299 16GB. Don’t get me wrong- I love my windows mobile just as much as the next guy, and i despise Steve’s “My way or the highway” Nazi style of products that you have to use they way they say to or not at all, but I will be buying an iPhone. It is really a great phone.

  • We’re supposed to guess why you posted a picture of Oedipus? Hmm… I got it! Is it because you just had sex with your mother?

  • I feel that the man in the middle is Microsoft who is trying to protect the girl with him (Zune phone) from the mockery of the crowd (iphone people) and passing away from the the danger road.

  • I know this was answered already, but the picture is of Oedipus AFTER he found out he had killed his FATHER AND slept with his mother, and he found her dead, since she found out also, so he took one of her pins / brooches and pierces his own eyes out.

So he walks out and his daughter/sister named Antigone (the girl in the picture) helps him leave town and all the people are mad at him for killing his father and blame him for his mother killing her self.

If we take that into context, then Oedipus COULD be Apple’s Ipod Touch and by mating with his mother gave birth to the Apple Iphone (Antigone) and now the Ipod Touch will be condemned and go off and die after being blinded and it will be because of the Iphone. (So in the picture the Iphone is carrying off the Ipod Touch) because why buy a TOuch without the phone capabilities?

So do I get a price too? besides, the historical detail is amazing!
