Apple’s ‘App Store’ coming June 27th

by Doug Aamoth on June 11, 2008

appstore Downloadable applications will be available for the iPod Touch (and presumably the iPhone) on June 27th, according to a graphic on Apple’s Australian iPod Touch site.

Curiously, the same graphic is absent from Apple’s US site.

As noted in Jobsie’s keynote on Monday, the Apple 2.0 software will be a free update for iPhone owners, but iPod Touch owners like me will get gouged (again), having to pay $9.95 for the privilege of using the new software on our devices. New software that allows Touch owners to pay for new software from the App Store (some apps are free, though). Thanks a pantload, Steve.

Thanks for the tip, Katie!

  • “having to pay $9.95 for the privilege of using the new”

*yawn* If you can afford the buy the touch you can afford to pay 9.95 for new functionality.

  • this is a load of crap.apple charges an arm and a leg for their new stuff.i totally disagree with yoshi. apple should be loving the ipod touch users for buying their stupid useless programs

  • Will you complain when they charge you for snow leopard too?

  • I cant wait for them to release the app store i was going to jailbreak but then i heard the app store was coming so i dint bother. I think you should not have to pay for the 2.0 software update because well we paid hundreds of dollars for the ipod touch so i think it should be free. How much will the apps cost on the app store and does any body know they absolutly official date for the release for the app store.
