Sure, motion detection is in the future for games on all platforms. It was expected after the success of the Wii that there would be belated follow-ups by Microsoft and Sony (we won’t count the Sixaxis). Of course, they will say how they’ve been thinking of it all along, and their approach is totally unique.
I wonder if Sony is even going to try the usual lines when it comes out with a break-apart controller with accelerometers in each part, for dual-fisted motion detection action. Maybe we’ll see it at E3. Who wants to bet that even then it won’t work as well as Nintendo’s?

Wait, why won’t we count the Sixaxis? Sure it’s been underutilized, but there’s nothing wrong with the technology. It was used successfully in fLow. I’d rather see Sony utilize their existing accelerometer before introducing another one.
I don’t think the two-fisted Nintendo controller (counting the Nunchuk) is the real reason the Wii is kicking ass… it’s Mario!
If Sony really feels deficient in the controller hardware department, add an infrared controller and sensor bar for pointing. The lack of a pointing device on the PS3 is why all the gun games are moving to the Wii. (We’re not counting Time Crisis 4).
The Sixaxis was a piece. I felt it was unresponsive to begin with, and games that used it just had it as an afterthought or alternate control scheme that was usually worse or no better than analog sticks.
I think of it more as a marketing move than an actual use of motion controls.
Dude, they need to do a major omnibus port of all the old games like Area 51 and Virtua Cop to Wii. I would pay so much for that.
Yeah, the PS3 accelerometer was totally an afterthought, literally being tacked on after Nintendo announced the Wii. Adding a second accelerometer would just be a second afterthought, and I just don’t see the need. Very few Wii games require both accelerometers.
As for a port of Area 51 and Virtua Cop… I’d hit that.
Still, I long for the day when I can shoot zombies, thugs, and dinosaurs in HD, preferably all three in the same game. And ninjas.
