HP Blackbird 02 to sport dual GeForce 280s. In other news, give me a break

When the 9800GX2 cropped up, I thought, “That’s ridiculous. Who could possibly need that much power?” Yet now NVIDIA has eclipsed its dual-card beast with a single next-generation wonder, and people are already asking for two of those.
HP’s Blackbird 02 gaming computer recently got refreshed, but no one saw this coming. Configurate here.

This is really cool but about 6x more then I am willing to spend… I would settle for a single GeForce 280 in a simple grey box ;-)

I just saw a comparison over at Anandtech. They got their hands on 2 GTX 280’s and 2 9800GX2’s, and the performance was almost the same running each card in SLI mode. Crysis at 52fps at 1920×1200. Not sure why anyone would spend the premium for the same performance:

The funny part is that they had to use a *second* PC and attach the power cables from that to even supply enough power.
