Wii: Tiger Woods ‘09 finally gets online play, plus better swing mechanics and five new courses

This year’s version of Tiger Woods for the Nintendo Wii should finally address some of the shortcomings of the first two titles. Most notably, you’ll finally be able to play online against three other players. What’s really cool about the online mode is that all four of you will take your shots independently of each other. So you’ll see little trails and shot arcs from your opponents scattered about whichever hole you’re currently playing to signify their shots respective to yours. You won’t, however, have to sit and watch every player hit, so a full four-player round won’t drag on for hours.

Aside from online multiplayer, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 will feature true one-to-one swing mechanics – something that’s been missing from previous years as well. When you pull back on the Wii remote, your player starts his backswing – similar to Wii Sports Golf. It sounds simple, but the first two versions of the game found you completing a swing with the Wii remote and then watching your player swing a few moments later. This version should feel much more realistic.

The game will also feature some revamped graphics (although the above video doesn’t look too drastically different to me – the sounds certainly seem familiar) and five new golf courses: Bay Hill in Orlando, Wentworth in England, Sun City in South Africa, Wolf Creek in Nevada, and Shenshan in Shanghai, China.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 is slated to be released on August, 26th.

I have wanted a Wii for such a long time, but when they created this, they should have thought of the people that had disabilities. I can swing there hand control around, but I certainly can’t stand and balance on anything. I realize why they did this, and that was to get people off their butts to play. But those who can’t get off their butts would have a problem with it. Also, I love Tiger Woods! But to stand like a golfer, nope, not able to do that. Oh, well, I guess Nintendo just left those with disabilities out of the picture.

Skye B. - There is a setting available to swing while sitting down on the Woods ‘08 version. I’m sure the ‘09 version will have the same. There are other Wii games you can play while seated , sports games included.

I play the 2008 version ‘old school’ using the controller buttons to do all swings etc., so this is not a problem. Nearly all Wii games have an option to do this too.

No way man, of course they’ll include different control schemes, just like the previous Wii Tiger Woods games. Don’t worry my precious little cripple, you’ll be facing Tiger Woods without legs in no time!

OK just got the 09 tiger woods, what a disapointment, they changed the whole game, why wouldnt they let you incorporate your man from the 08 game, now you have to start all over, controls are different, no cheering, no funnny remarks” so far”, i believe 09 would have been great if they had changed the remarks, brought in new courses, and let us have kept our player the way he was.

OK, my first experience with ‘09. How do you set the clock when playing online for more time to play? 30 seconds goes by quick when you are trying to get your club and shot right for play. This is a great online game.

hi all , i have the new tiger woods 09 game for the wii , my only problem is i have no manual or info about how to play online properly.
i can play online and win games lose games etc , but the ranking system dosent work for me because i dont know how to use it properly , the in game online faq explains that you have to choose a player either the same or slightly better than better than you for your rank to go up , but when i choose ranking game it dosent give me a choice of opposition it just throws me in at the deep end against the big guns lol where i have no chance , but if i go in a lobby and pick competitive match and then choose someone better than me and beat them thewn my rank dosent go up only gives me another win to my name on my overall games , my rank is not affected , so my question is after all this is , does any1 know where i can get the guide for online instructions , so that i can understand what im meant to do or perhaps anyone explain to me what i should be doing , ive googled and had no luck for most of the night tonight so im hoping someone or some peoples can help me out and and perhaps link me or direct me to the right path , thank you so much , cheers
