Take this with a grain of salt, but a user over on HowardForums who’s been known to leak credible information in the past has apparently leaked some pricing information about the iPhone 3G that’ll be heading to Canada on the Rogers network.

Here’s the short version:

  • Pricing looks very similar to U.S. pricing in that the 8GB version will cost $199 and the 16GB version will cost $299
  • The subsidized prices require a three year commitment instead of a two-year commitment. Can any of our Canadian readers comment on this? This seems to be a growing trend in Canada, huh? Three years instead of two?
  • Data plans will be similarly priced at $30 for consumers and $45 for businesses. They’ll have to be added to qualifying voice plans, which will likely start at $40 per month.
  • The device will be sold in Rogers, Fido, and Apple stores.

So basically it looks like everything’s about the same as it will be here in the states if this post over on HowardForums is legit, except for the contract length.

  • will the ipod touch drop in price now that the iphone costs so much less?

  • I think we have always had “up to” three year contracts with our carriers. I know I have been with Telus and Rogers and to get a “free” phone you need a 3-year contract.

  • I’m from Canada, and I’ve rarely seen anything other than three year contracts for subsidized phones

  • 1 and 2 year contracts are also available here in canada, but most promos and and free phone are offered at 3 year contracts only

  • See link below… Fido and Rogers are one and the same. 199$, 299$ for 3 years… Strait from them. The same document is on Rogers web site.

  • ya three years is the norm in Canada. I’ll be quite pleased if we have the same rates as the states as we only have 3-4 major cell phone providers who can basically charge us whatever the hell they want

  • The device prices are actually right, $199/$299 for 8/16GB. As for the price plans thats the unknown. There is a new Mega Data plan out that asks for $30 for 300MB of anytime use data. The only other is the Blackberry plans which is between 4-10MB with voice, and the $7 unlimited vision service which requires a vision phone and you can only use it for Facebook, Myspace Mobile, and etc. The PC card wireless ones are in the GB but you get 5GB for $100 not the $60 that costs in the states w/voice by the way. So anyway you see it the iPhone is going to be very disappointing to lots of potential buyers. And yes 36months is the US 24 up here.
