Yesterday Panasonic Japan unveiled [JP] 2 new HD camcorders to be released in this country on July 12th. The HDC-SD100 and the HDC-HS100 are the world’s first AVCHD camcorders with a 3MOS system.
Their new models use three CMOS sensors instead of the traditional CCD, improving picture quality and reducing power consumption at the same time. Both camcorders shoot full HD footage. THe HDC-HS100 features a 60 GB hard drive and a memory card slot, while the other model lacks the hard drive, recording to up to 32GB of SDHC.
The camcoders are equipped with a 2.7-inch LCD screen, 12xoptical zoom, a 5.1 surround mic, an HDMI interface and Viera TV connection.
Panasonic will sell the HDC-HS100 for $1,400 and the HDC-SD100 for $1,200 in Japan. However, the company said both camcorders are also scheduled for release in the USA in September.

How does the SD100 compare to the Canon HF11??? Of course the Canon HF11 has the 32GB internal memory on top of allowing you to add more memory with an SD card.
Does it have the 24p (cinema mode) that the Canon HF11 has? Would the 32GB storage that the Canon HF11 has be a VERY important factor that would make me want to buy it instead of the Panasonic SD100?
But over all, which one has the BEST set of features/quality?
What are the features that are better on each of the devices?
Thanks.
I forgot to ask if the Panasonic has a built-in light like the Canon HF11 does. Since I am not very knowledgeable about camcorders, I wonder if that is a factor that should influence purchase or just a marketing move (adding that light in the Canon camcorder)…
Thanks…
