You’re probably already in the know about this, but the big Pyro pack has arrived along with his/her achievements and unlockable weapons. The full update info is here, including this little gem:
- Removed Soldier’s 40% damage reduction from his own rockets. Does not affect rocket jumps
Thank you Jesus. I look forward to a rash of self-destroying soldiers.
Also, in case you haven’t tried this excellent game, you can download it for free this weekend (starts Friday) and play as much as you want. I highly recommend it - it looks great on low-end hardware but it’s a good workout for a nice rig as well.

As for the 40% reduction from his own rockets being taken away, this doesn’t affect his rocket jumps. He still gets a 40% damage reduction when he rocket jumps. Whoever is blunt enough to shoot the walls beside them or the floor below their feet deserves to die in this game. The only reason Valve took that 40% away is becuase of the Pyro’s new ability: his basic flamethrower’s compressed air deflects rockets thus in terms will kill soldiers easier.

I find the worst thing is just turning a corner and hitting a soldier who just clicks and a crit rocket blows you up but not him, when you’re at point blank. Hopefully this affects that.

an add on to my last comment, The Pyro’s Compressed air ability will kill Soldiers easier with their own rockets is what I meant to say. Also I can see alot of Soldiers and Demomen running and keeping their distance from Pyros out of fear. And I fear the Pyro is over powered for now.

I think the Pyro has been a bit “overdone” as well. Once you get people working tightly between pyros and sentry turrets, with the pyro keeping off spies and deflecting rockets, stickies, and pipe bombs, defenses are going to be damn near impenetrable.
Then I guess the next upgrade will break it all open again. Talk about keeping your audience obsessed.

I can vouch for the impenetrable defense myself for I was in such a situation with an engineer as a pyro, and it does work once you get the hang of deflecting rockets and etc.
I wanted to say something, about obsession and the free weekend which brings more people to the game. The medic pack’s free weekend filled my friends list to the max. Alot of them bought the game and I had to open a second account for the pyro pack which is also filling up another friends list. The more friends the more teamwork and communication. And thats why I’m obsessed with the free weekend, despite my new friends are all annoying noobs.
