I am so happy I canceled my cell phone contract and bought a prepaid Net10 phone. I no longer get that huge bill at the end of every month, I don't have to pay hidden charges and I'm not tied to them. Net10 only charges 10 cents per minute, when I worked it out I was paying nearly 30cents per minute on contract but I thought I was getting so many free minutes, it turned out to be a lure and I was hooked like so many others but I've cut the line and I'm free. Text messages are only 5 cents each unlike the 20 cents I was paying. I don't have to pay anything for roaming and the signal is better with Net10. And long distance calls are also 10 cents so no matter where I am or where I am calling I only ever pay 10 cents with no daily charge or anything.

A way to get out for free is to use a lot of your minutes in roaming zones. It says in a lot of wireless co's contracts that if a certain percentage is used in roaming they can cut you off so you can find a company that works where you are talking the most. This is a neat idea to have though.

Is $200 even an issue if you have terrible service and want to switch?

I'm not saying $200 is easy money, but I'd pay that to get out of a contract tying me to a service that's giving me hassles.
