Set up your 360 to be a Netflix streaming player
by Devin Coldewey on June 25, 2008

I’m loving how with a few modifications, these next-gen consoles are becoming true media centers. From running third party apps to installing Linux, it seems that this stuff is just a couple clicks away (if you’re willing to fiddle with your hardware a little bit). One easy mod is this one at Lifehacker: how to make your 360 stream Netflix movies. The trouble is it requires Vista. Yes, there’s the rub.

Still, if you’ve got the setup, why not take advantage of it? The steps look pretty simple, so get on it, fool! And let us know if it works.

  • Too bad 9/10 netflix streams are absolute crap or before my time.

  • 20% of my queue are Watch Now titles. Not bad. And that doesn’t count TV shows I’d watch.

I set this up a few nights ago. I wouldn’t call it simple. It took about an hour to get completely working. Once I got it going, I was VERY happy with the results.

Then, the next night I tried it, I kept getting errors that forced me to uninstall the plug-in, and the 360 as an extender on my media center, re-install it all, re-set it all up. So, another hour. I’ll be very sad if I have to go through all of that every night I want to stream Netflix.

I’m going to keep trying though, because the end result is so satisfying.
