Guys Canadian Dollars and US Dollars have been almost equal for years now. John Biggs the Canadian dollar WAS NEVER 10% of US, it was 10% higher or less but not of USD. Just so you know, Canada is proportionally wealthier than US and more civilized, less crime rate, so when you should compare to Mexico and pesos you would be 100% right. Especially when it comes to Cell Phone companies and monopolies. Rogers and Bell are still in stone ages, they should not monopolize the telecom industry that badly. Look at the deals above. NONE of them are unlimited data nor voice. they only offer unlimited evenings starting 9:00pm to 7:00 am basically when people are sleeping or impolite to call. Let's put it this way, Regardless of iPhone or BlackBerry Rogers or Bell will get you badly.. My last month ONE BlackBerry data and phone bill with Rogers came up to be a bit over $1600. NO KIDDING. Try to live in Canada in the cold, high tax, high bank fees and HIGH CELL PHONE fees.
Rogers and Bell must be regulated ASAP, one of the worst companies on earth. They should go to Mexico to compete with Carlos Slim Helu, another unfair monopolizer, he will eat them alive. But you see, he is in Mexico, not in a civilized country so it's little bit more acceptable. But doing that in Canada is shameful.

In reality, if you choose to live there, the Canadian dollar has been near or at par with the USD for several months now. But hey, it's more fun to just ignore facts, right? :)

An outsiders point of view.

In South Africa we pay a fraction of this price. In fact, we paid fraction of this price several years ago. I can't help but smile about all this iPhone hype. Granted, it's a good phone, but your networks disallow any growth.

Fact: This is not reasonable or "normal", unless normal means being ripped off. I've been visiting Canada for a while now find all mobile networks to be shockingly expensive. I'm surprised Canadians put up with this. Where are your corporate/competition regulators? And what's up with all these non-GSM networks? That makes no sense whatsoever...

Curious indeed.

J

PS: And to those fools who think they do without mobile data, send a snail mail letter to your parents to tell them they raised an idiot. How many people thought they could live without a mobile phone when they became available? Same with data; it makes a whole lot of sense...but only once you have it.

We have Tim Hortons, Hockey and an excellent health care system. I can live without an unlimited data plan for my iPhone until the third generation iPhone comes out (next year?). :)

Reasonable? Are you crazy? Rogers is the only GSM provider in Canada (Fido is owned by Rogers) and had the opportunity to destroy the cell phone competition in Canada by offering a cheap rate.

Rogers is the worst cell phone company in Canada by far (ask anyone who has ever called Rogers support...even sales) but this could have been the single event that would help them out.

Everyone involved in the decision making process at Rogers should be fired outright...and I'm a little surprised that Crunchgear thinks that these prices are normal. Remember that the Canadian Dollar is on Par with the American Dollar...

$115/month CDN = $115/month USD

grrrrrr.
