You’re right that each system has different things to offer. There are advantages and disadvantages for both. And its important to note that those advantages and disadvantages will change over time. However, I think you’re smarter than what your comment suggests. There are many reasons why people don’t own both consoles. People “want” many things, but the reality is sometimes a person’s situation dictates they do otherwise. Not to say everyone is entrapped into poverty, but a good number of people can’t afford to get all possible options. They can’t get a family car AND a sports coupe, or HDTV in every room. The lack of ability doesn’t equal the lack of desire. That is to say, you can REALLY love games (be hardcore), and both systems, but not be able to financially get both. Be thankful that you can. Also I’d say that there are many things that could constitute a hardcore gamer. Most gamers (and people in particular), would want a large TV to play their games on, as well as a home theater system to crank up. All of that costs money, and those costs go up when you tack on a new console. This industry is on the back of older gamers who’ve grown up with Nintendo and now have families of their own.

I’d like to see more folks purchase games, but there are many factors into why that is. The 360 has long been deemed as the Shooter powerhouse, and if you look at the games that sell remarkably well are the console, its shooters (Gears, Halo, CoD4). Moreover, community (communication) and online play are almost associated with shooters (deathmatch, voice chat, etc). Microsoft is ahead of the curve on that. Microsoft has a larger userbase having released earlier. Every country has certain genres the population gravitates to; America tends to favor shooters. When you consider that favoritism and couple it with MS’s userbase lead (community)(primarily in America), online and communication lead, its easy to see why MS makes those types of numbers. For other genres outside of shooters, MS performs similarly to the PS3 or even PS2. The difference on the big titles somewhat mirrors the userbase.

Also VGChartz has been under fire as of late for gross inaccuracy. Apparently alot of it based on speculation and guessing without concrete evidence or numbers. I think Gamasutra wrote a pretty nice article on it. While I’m sure your claim is likely right with regards to more millions sellers sold, VGChartz might not be the best source to cite. Also, a good number of those titles were built up when the 360 was the only console on the market. Since the PS3’s sales picked up, new titles have sold well across the board (of course more on 360 due to its base). This will rise as the PS3 grows more and more.

The PS3 can be better. But the online service must really improve. And that will cost money. Plain and simple. Sony bled 3.3 billion dollars last year because while they lowered the price of the PS3, the production costs are still much higher than the retail price.

Granted, Microsoft had the same thing going on (but now profitable for the last 3 quarters) too. But they can afford it, Sony cannot.

I predict that within the next year, after Home is released and finalized, the PSN will be subscription based. I really hope so. That will filter out all the trash talking teens who work at the local burger palace and make the PSN a fine place for the rest of us.

Second, the PS3 has enough games now to stand on it’s own, but you whining little PS3 babies won’t buy any games. The 360 sells tons more games than the PS3. And YOU are to blame for it. You brag endlessly in comment sections and forums about how much better the PS3 is but you don’t even support your own console by purchasing games.

Third, please learn to spell and use proper grammar in your postings. You look like (and likely are) illiterate backwater bubbas when you post. No one is going to take you seriously.

Fourth, go to vgchartz.com and select the games sub-choice. Now filter on X360 and Sales. Notice that there are 41 games that have sold over a million copies. Now do the same for the PS3. Oh, wow. 15 games that have reached that industry benchmark. Wow. Not. How about you shut up and go buy some PS3 games so that your console will win this generations war. Half the PS3 sales are estimated to be just for playing Blu-ray discs and not games. And this is virtually confirmed by the fact that the PSN has only 45% of the purchased users signing up. And it’s FREE no less!!!!

PS2 was DVD – and so DVD sales went up
PS3 in Blu-ray and a shed load of other stuff.
