Would-be Canadian iPhone buyers ticked off, start petition over data prices

ruined

The just-announced iPhone 3G pricing plan for Rogers in Canada isn’t going down too well. One intrepid Canadian started a Web site, RuinediPhone.com, that has a petition targeting the rather unfair prices. So far, more than 17,000 people have signed the petition, which is intended to make Rogers drop the price of the iPhone data plan.

The site’s creator has even written an open letter to Steve Jobs, asking him to do “something” about the unfair prices.

We applaud your struggle, Canada. There’s no reason for Rogers to charge what it wants to charge compared to what AT&T charges. Unless here’s some Canadian tax thing we’re not familiar with.

Way to drop the ball Rogers. You are easily the worst cell phone company in Canada, maybe the world. I can’t imagine why you would choose to tun thousands of paying customers away. I really hope that all this negative international attention will wake up your executives and make you realize your mistakes.

Smarten up!

Was in Toronto for the weekend (after ridiculous delays at LGA) and was surprised to see my iphone pick up Rogers signal automatically… AT&T was replaced by a little scrolling ‘Rogers Wireless’. Unsure if old news or not but was a nice surprise.

I’m paying somewhere in the ballpark of $130 a month for my iphone on AT&T. They need to stop whining. It’s not like my rates aren’t already going up after I move to the 3G too.

If you don’t like the price, just don’t buy it.

I am hoping that every current Roger’s subscriber will look at their bill and cut out any extraneously charges.

I removed a little used feature and am saving $6 a month. A coffee to me, but now Roger’s will be losing money from their bottom line.

Rogers post the total amount of data usage at the printing of your monthly bill and ONLY that time. So you are forced to pay for it.

Rogers Sucks! I am so upset at their dumbass decisions! Can they not see that the whole world is criticizing them and watching for their next move? Step up to the plate do what is right and offer unlimited data on all plans. Stop being greedy because you can! Everyone will remember this! When competition comes into Canada most will switch. Oh, but then you will offer the stars and the moon—–too late!

In Canada Rogers and Bell monopolize the whole telcom (cell phone, Internet, Cable and regular phones). You can’t live without them, they tell you, well if you don’t like the price don’t buy it like this (Jon above with his comment) but that’s not an option in Canada. REGARDLESS OF iPhone or BlackBerry… If you don’t buy the service you just can’t do business. It’s so unfortunate that a country like Canada still allows monopoly to that level, I mean we are not in Mexico cmon. Regulators are either paid to keep their mouth sut, or sleeping in the Bahamas on Rogers property or not sure why they don’t re-act. ONE SIMPLE comparison, in Canada July 2008, you still CAN NOT, get unlimited cell phone and data usage for any price. My last month one BlackBerry phone bill came up to be little bit over $1600 for ONE MONTH NO EXAGERATION. This is real. I am sure many others suffer from the same problem, you just can’t do business using your cell phone without paying a very VERY high premium.
REGARDLESS of iPhone or BlackBerry, they will get you badly. I wish US companies will penetrate the Canadian market ASAP. Rogers must disappear, they are not fair for Canadian people and businesses. In Canada heavy users would rather pay double than US users for the same services simply because they are paying over 10 times more with Rogers and Bell….

Gebadia Smith said: “Well it is official Rogers, I am going to give you $400 to cancel my blackberry and am going to find a company that isn’t full of idiots.” ——————————- i believe it’s two hundred…. you can pay a $200 penalty to dissolve a contract, but your case may be different
