The iPhone will debut in Japan, one of the world’s biggest telecommunications markets, on July 11th and people here seem to be pretty excited about it already.
In a recent survey on the popularity of smartphones in Japan, 57.9% of all respondents replied they are interested in the Apple model the most. The Blackberry ranked 6th (and last) with just 8.8%.
Details can be found here (in English). The results must be regarded with caution though. The survey was conducted by iShare [JP], the geniuses responsible for last month’s survey on the iPhone’s chances on the Japanese market.

blackberry is seriously the worst I regret buying it and leaving windows mobile…now every carrier offers their own push email so why do we need a shitty blackberry? no video/audio streaming (and not youtube), can’t access file browser, no software available, no msn messenger, software is expensive and not much available, you have to keep pulling the battery out, very bad homescreen design, you can’t fully delete stuff from the carrier such as the facebook application, no themes and half decent ones cost money, its overall not a good OS…steer clear and stay with windows mobile…
I understand this post is a year old, but you should look at the latest blackberry offerings. I have a 8330 and it blows away anything with Windows Mobile on it. :)
Interest is running really high here in Japan. A big survey from Japanese site kakaku.com found almost 1 in 5 people ready to run out and get an iPhone now (or having already ordered one), with a lot more considering purchase. This is going to be BIG.
I wrote up the survey results in some detail. Take a look if interested:
