But, I don't use IM so it isn't much use to me (unless Twitter brings IM support back). I'm sure Google will come out with a much better native client for the iPhone and it will most likely be free. No problems. I find the need to chat with colleagues on the go a necessity. It is efficient, clean and keeps me awake in boring meetings.
