Over 23,000 signatures have been collected for Mexico's very own iPhone petition. Telcel's 3 plans include a mere 100-200 MB of Data, and if you go over they charge you around $4 dollars per megabyte. The so called Unlimited Plan switches to the slower 128Kbps network when you reach 3 GB; not such a great deal at $140 dollars per month.

We need to get the international media's attention. See for yourself at http://www.nelpastel.com/

At more of a look at Vodafone’s website, you can buy the 16gb headset outright for $1129 - however point remains, data charges are just stupid!

Over the last few weeks Vodafone has really been falling apart. They're trying to coerce everybody off Prepay and onto contract plans.

Well, I'll be leaving their Prepay plan, but not for a contract on Vodafone!

But be careful. Although you can buy the phone outright and use it on prepay you won't be able to use it for casual data (other than via wifi). That's what vodafone means when they say "yes and no" when asked if it works on a prepay SIM. Voice or SMS = Yes, Data = No.

The full purchase price for the iPhone is actually pretty competitive when compared to other smartphones with similar feature sets. The difference between a Nokia N95 or a Windows Mobile device and the iPhone however is that with the former devices you are free to use the casual data rates if you so choose. With the 3G iPhone Vodafone New Zealand have decided to enable it to only work on data plans offered via contract.

Few interesting comments brought up and I totally agree how fustrating it is.
As they announced the launch I was surprised to see that Vodafone NZ didn't release any information about the plans except a statement from which outlined costs from "$199" and further pricing would be released close to launch, well the same day actually.

I wouldn't go as far as boycotting apple products, it is a great product without any doubt and I don't believe apple have any control over the costs that Vodafone NZ apply, as at the end of the day and it has been for years, data costs over here are just simply outrageous. Whether it is mobile or even DSL connections. Apple can't dictate how a carrier prices data costs and that is where it is ridiculous. The price is just simply out of reach for potentially a big market here and students / younger generation quite possibly would not be able to afford it. At very least they should offer a complete buy out of the handset without any plan contracts assigned to it.

Here we go again. Yes, this is outrageously expensive. But it's no more expensive than any other smart phone of similar ilk. Want an iPhone with no contract? NZD$979. Want a comparable Nokia N95 without contract? NZD$1399.

We have been ripped off for years. This is no different.

What a waste of all the good will Vodafone have built up with their customers. I used to be a bit of a fan, but they've just tossed aside about 10 years of loyalty. I will now be seriously considering moving to Telecom if I see a good offer. And they've also missed the chance to draw so many customers from Telecom and so many people from pre-pay onto contract. WELL DONE!

I've waited a year for the iPhone to be released in New Zealand and this is the offering? Seriously? What are they smoking? Obviously they are thinking their demographic is high paid lawyers or something.
This is a country where 80% of the people use pre-pay and pay between $20-$40 NZD per month on average. The plans here have never been a savings or enough of one to motivate people to go to a contract. Obviously they are using the iPhone's popularity to try to coerce people to go on their ridiculous contract plans.
Then I, in turn, will not be buying an iPhone or endorsing apple products.

Adam:

If you read the Vodafone website properly, you'd find that even if you buy one outright you still have to sign a plan with them.

I pay (i think) US$59.95 a monthy for all you can eat national (US) calls and unlimited data on AT&T.

We have two phones on a family plan for $126 per month or something.

What a bunch of dick heads

And ordinarily I am jealous of you Kiwis and your comms. Over here in the land of OZ, Optus are giving you an iphone for nix on a $79/month plan on 24 month contract.

Agree it is just a money grab due Apple hype, wait a few months. They will come down.

Man - I'm so disgusted.

I was almost considering converting to the dark side when the price was confirmed at $199, but with the plan prices they've announced, Vodafone should be ashamed. Either that or Apple should kick their money grubbing asses!

That's what we get for having a duopoly in the mobile market.
