According to the map I should have 3G coverage. Simple reception on my side of town (Kearny, NJ) was horrible until last week when they activated a new tower on the roof of my apartment building. Got home with the new phone today. No 3G.=( I'm deep in the blue area of the map yet I'm experiencing no 3G goodness. Was I just conned into paying $15 more a month for the same service?

Yeah, I'm in Iowa city, So I'd be interested in that as well. We just got EVDO Service here for Verizon less than a month ago. Which is rediculous in my opinion.

I'll settle with my VX8300. Even if ATT did cover low populace areas such as the whole state of Montana. iPhone FTL. Besides right now I get unlimited data for 50 bucks a month and at work I get the same for free.

Yeah, I'm going to wait for the 2.0 to be jailbroken as well. I don't need to be all cool and trendy and have the Iphone 3G before everyone else.

I'm moving to 3G coverage in 2 days (coincidentally my current city just got coverage on 7/1), but I already have a 3G Windows Mobile phone that does much more than the iphone 3G. So, no I will not be a fanboi waiting in line for an overpriced, under-featured hunk of plastic that requires data plans that are a rip off.

@davidpogue: Right, the blue is where you'll find 3G.

@Susan: I was kidding with that east coast jab. I was actually considering moving to San Francisco for a while. Instead I'm going to Europe for a bit.

Good gravy, whoever wrote that comment under the east coast photo has never been to the west coast! The east and west coasts are very different. The east coast was settled with horses and feet to carry people from place to place giving us medium size cities spaced about an hour apart by car. The west was desert or farms and ranches until the car was king. The result was extremely sparse, extremely large areas of land followed by massive cities. And that's just what you see on these maps. Thus same coverage east and west.

Maybe it's obvious, but just to be clear: it's the BLUE spots that are 3G....

I am in a 3G coverage area in Belgium, but Steve Jobs lied when he said the iPhone 3G would be available worldwide for $199. It is over US$700 (525euros) here for the 8gb model, the 16gb is considerably more.

I will stick with my 8GB hacked EDGE iPhone and wait for someone to crack the 2.0 software before upgrading.

If Mobistar ever comes down to the real world in price, then I will upgrade to a 16gb 3G. But not for 615 euros. Email on EDGE is plenty fast. GPS would be nice for navigating the cities on foot, I get lost in Brussels a lot, but not US$965-nice.

I don't think we have coverage in New Hampshire, either. I'm not going to get an iPhone 3G since I'm not going to pay $30 for a service I'm not going to use entirely.
