Did you wake up this fine Sunday morning and say to yourself, “You know, I need an terribly thorough look at the new dock for the iPhone 3G”? What luck, then, for iLounge has put together such hands-on.

First, the bad: the dock for the iPhone 3G isn’t included with the phone itself. The privilege of snapping your phone into tiny stand now costs $29. It’s also not a universal dock, meaning that it only works with the iPhone 3G.

Other than those issues, if you can call them that, it’s the same dock you’ve become familiar with since your first iPod. It charges your phone like the dickens, and it has a proper audio-out jack.

For those of you prone to complain, how else do you expect Apple to lower the price of the iPhone without cutting out a few extras?

  • And no Apple Bluetooth headset charging. No doubt that will come after you buy this and be $49.

Love my apple stuff. The accessory costs are a killer though.

  • iPhone 3G? Looks good. The bad side is not really faster and not so well advance, specially with the headphone. Why do Apple have to monopolized a bluetooth stereo headphones. It is nice to have a wireless stereo headphones and received a call with same device with bluetooth connection. Why is it that Apple created something that we cannot used our old accessories to this device at least listen and charging the device (ex. car charger for ipod nano to charge/listen in the car-now now not compatible for iphone 3g, i paid over $100 for this item). I agree to one of the comments, its half price but the accessories are killer, so it is a big business and profitable for Apple. Bluetooth on this device does not support FTP per Apple Technician Support.

  • What do you mean Apple charging less? AT&T is paying quite a bit to Apple for the phone they are subsidizing. It is foolish to think that Apple is not making a hefty profit selling the phones. When it comes to making a buck, they are just like any other company.
