first of all how do you game on a mac?? unless its a serious 6000 mac with 16gb of ram and a 500gb hdd it would be senseless...and as for gaming on an xbox you can get way better graphics on a custom built game machine...gtx 280 is great!! and it doesnt seem like much when you use the evga step up program

I'd have to come to the defense of Nic on this one, because serious PC gaming is slightly absurd. But so is serious console gaming. That 50" HDTV is pretty hefty in price, even compared to my 22" Wide and 19" dual screen set up. I like to play my games above recommended so I pay for a mid range card, not the latest and greatest since it changes every 3 months. Isn't serious gaming somewhat of an oxymoron.

Absurd in the “wow that's a lot of money to play video games” sense. Just how I perceive it, is all.

Well, I was always a console gamer growing up, so I was never bitten by the PC gaming bug. (My family never had a PC powerful enough to play anything more demanding than Minesweeper.) Nowadays, I have so little time to game that I'd rather just kill an hour or two on the Xbox and not have to worry about drivers and heat sinks and buying new RAM/GPU/CPU every two years. It's just easier, is all.

"Seeing these prices, the thought of serious PC gaming seems so absurd to me. I’m fine with a 360 and my MacBook for the occasional hour of WoW"

Pretty silly statement from somebody who usually writes some pretty smart stuff. I'm glad you are happy with your toys, but just because you have found joy in your own little world, don't disparage others and their hobbies.

FYI - No, I am not one of those who choose to spend $300-$1k on video for their machines. I build mine more along the line of my budget - but I am not going to call hobbyists who choose to do so "absurd".
