As far as we know and to THQ Wireless’ knowledge we’re the first with any sort of footage for the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and here it is for all of you readers. It’s a very cool game and an ingenious way of using the touchscreen. The accelerometer is only used to switch gameplay from landscape to portrait at any time. It’s still a work in progress and won’t be released until September 16, but we didn’t notice any glitches. I can say without a doubt that this is going to be a hot, hot game for the iPhone/iPod platform. Enough yapping. Enjoy the video.

I think this looks amazing — and I work here!
I’m.. not really impressed. It’s basically doing the same thing over and over again. It’s cute, but.. nothing jaw dropping or innovative. If they at least changed up the method to force throw people then I might be somewhat interested.
Frustrated that this video isn’t showing up any longer!!!
>>The accelerometer is only used to switch gameplay from landscape to portrait at any time.
Well, ok. But, no, wait. That’s rubbish. That’s like resizing your window in Windows.
yawn…
THIS IS Serious Business. I needs it
This style of gameplay reminds me of the old Dragon’s Lair arcade game. looks very cool. oh and for all the iphone fanboys out this game was announced to be coming out for nokia’s ngage a while ago. that’s where i will be buying it…
Ok that settles it! I’m keeping my 2G iPhone, upgrading to 2.0, downing a few apps, including this one when it comes out, and treating my old buddy to a new cover and budcase.com!
That’s hold me til Christmas I hope!

That should hold me until Christmas I hope!
This looks pretty boring to me.
omg. please cut down these endless dialogues. This is actually far from being exciting… sorry.
I agree, very boring.
This blows. Seriously. How much space will all those intro scenes & dialogue scenes going to take up? Making circles & strokes to control gameplay? That’s going to get boring dang quick. Why not just put a graphic in one corner for Force and the other corner for Saber. Geezus.
Frothing at the bit? How’s that for mixing your metaphors?
Cool app, might be cool with the Wii controller…
what happened, i fell asleep during this video….
Yawn. The video commentary reminded me of Mystery Science Theater for some reason. Except, not funny.
They abused the levitation. Sucks the character runs on its own.
I can do those little loops all the time without an iphone whats the fun on that.
If only this finger would not mask the action… big issue with this for usability! They should rather split the screen, one section for fingering, the other for displaying…
Looks visually good, but looks like a bore to play. I’ll stick to Bejeweled 2.
That guys finger must be REALLY tired - I know my brain is watching this “game” being played. The same stuff over and over and over again - what fun! I can’t wait!
.
.
.
Oh yes I can - pretty much forever!
This looks pretty impressive: Great 3D on the iPhone! So why hide it all behind gesture icons and make the user play by doodling? Very odd.
Quick, someone draw a circle!
I don’t know if the music just sounds like old school 8bit suckage or if it’s a result of the tiny, basic external speakers. Maybe both. Graphics look cool though for those patient enough to follow the story.
What we really need is a universal dock joystick or D-pad accessory - there’s only so much you can (or should) do with a touch screen.
Yes, it does indeed look cool…but how many lines of dialog are we going to have to READ on that thing?! I mean seriously will it come with a Star Wars branded magnifying glass? Sheesh.
Sure doing voice over for the game would have grown the size of it drastically but those words look tiny and annoying to read IMHO
I hate to be the guy that yells about the camera all the time, but seriously, I have a hard time watching a video where the camera man keeps focusing and blurring the video, while trying to control his 10 cup per day coffee addiction. Please next time get a tripod, set the gadget down, focus and give it a little effort. This video, while not as bad as some, looks like it was made by a high school kid.
I was the cameraman and I don’t blame you for criticizing it…. but keep in mind this was in a VERY dark back room, a totally informal and off-the-record meeting. The camera itself was having trouble focusing (it’s a little thing) and of course Peter couldn’t hold the thing steady while tapping and drawing it either. So sorry about that. :D
This looks boring as hell. drawing little squiggles on the touch pad? thats not an “ingenious way of using the touchscreen”.
In fact the harry potter game on Nintendo DS requires you to do the same thing to cast spells. and it gets boring after about three times.
Breathtaking. Just Breathtaking. Sold out in Germany! ARGH!
@Andrew: Its an similar Gameplay like “Zelda” on the DS; the Game is great. So,..i am looking forward to play more stuff like that on the iphone.
(If i could get one until 2011…)
A good first effort. This bodes well for the future of iPhone gaming.
I have seen lots of stuff about the iphone and on the Iphone and while I would never in a million years even consider buying one, even I have to admit thats pretty cool, looks like games on phones are about to mopve past tetris and solitaire!
OMFG… will it work for the touch too? I’ve been patiently waiting just to play it on the Xbox 360.
That music sounded VERY 8bit and drab/boring. Heard better tracks on the DS lite. The whole touch screen experience while interesting at first gets really repetitive and stupid pretty quick. Does the guy only have two moves? I really hate to say it given the quality of its fullblown cousin, but this game has “hurry up and get something out” cash-in written all over it.
Breathtaking. Just Breathtaking. Sold out in Germany! ARGH!
So… an action-based game with very slow action because you have to swipe your finger all over the screen where the action is taking place. I mean, +10 for Star Wars on the iPhone, but -(several points) for a lame-o interface.
It looks more like a demo app than anything else to me.
I wish they would do something where it immerses you in the game instead of stuff that makes it look like you’re swatting at flies on a tiny screen… if you do the motion just right.
omg, this is awesome
@winliuxq: Is there a reason why you have copied my whole comment!?
Wicked! I love Star Wars so this is brilliant.
I think the idea for the controlling isn’t bad, but from this short video it just seems very tiresome. It’s understandable that a touch screen interface is quite limiting, but if I should have done it, I would have mde it as a first person game, where you used the accelerometer for moving the lightsaber and blocking, while tapping the left, right, top or bottom side of the screen, to make an attack from each of these directions depending on how your opponent was blocking/standing. In reality I’m unsure if this would work better, but to me it would have more potential. Anyway let’s see how the final version ends up ;-)
Okay,
initially this demo looked cool to me. But, I don’t really care for the style of game play. If all you do is draw on the screen like guitar hero or those games, than I think it will get a bit old. I’d be more interested in playing a game where I could control the character’s movements and powers/weapons. If you used the accelerometer to move the character and then had a few buttons at the bottom of the screen that could appear when needed an disappear much like the keyboard function on websites, etc on the iphone, I would be more interested. I think overall the game looks cool, but I think it could be even better, based on the footage I’ve seen!
Best of luck and may the force be with you!
Quite a proof that why touch screen is not enough. Check http://gizmodo.com/381828/microsoft-touchscreens-old-and-busted-force-sensitivity-is-new-hotness
I watched the video and all I can say is that I’m disappointed. Basically it is an interactive movie. The character automatically runs from screen to screen and like Resident Evil, the angle changes every few seconds to make you think it’s totally 3d when it’s not. Then, little red instructions appear at the top each bad guy and you follow them in order to throw the characters off of the screen using the force. I hope there is far more to this game than practicing making lines with my finger. It would be a tragedy to waste these graphics, characters, and story lines on a finger exercise game disguised as an action game.
quite interesting, hopefully will try and purchase for my iphone.
