An affordable electric car coming soon

Get ready for the return of the electric car. Philadelphia steel wholesaler Barry D. Bernsten has created BG Automotive Group with the purpose of bringing an affordable electric car to market. The first roll out will occur later this year in October and the new company hopes to hit sales marks of 4,000 cars.

More of an introduction to the concept and the company, the cars will be marketed as ‘neighborhood’ vehicles reaching a top speed of 25mph. The first generation of these next generation electric cars will be on sale for about $16,000. Batteries can be selected across the entire range of technologies: lead-sulfate, lead-silicon, nickel hydride, lithium ion.

But wait. That’s just for now.

Not content to remain – in essence – a golf-cart manufacturer, BG Automotive has plans to roll out highway-ready cars in 2009. And there’s no reason why they shouldn’t be able to do it, as fast electric vehicles are nothing new. The technology is there. In fact, by releasing the car, BG will beat by one year the Mitsubishi i MiEV arrival to North American shores.

  • I can already get a golf cart that can do about that speed for a lot less than 16k…

    • The values you state are NOT possible with the power system and voltage your using. the only way you could get 100+ miles on that vehicles is if you DEPLETE the batteries fully each time you drive it. This will result in the batteries being HOSED fully and completely in about a year if you charge it daily. (NIMH and Lithium can run to depletion lead acid CAN NOT you typically do not want to take them past 50% DOD which means range on this car is under 50 miles)

also fix your root folder on your domain (for others click catalog to get to the site)

for me to justify 100+ miles on a 50% DOD (for leads) otherwise I still end up paying more since I would not be able to use it for work (54miles one way) I also need to be able to carry 3 people that car looks like a 1 or 2 person car)

very nice very cool but alas can not work for me :-(

  • So it truly is a golf cart and they want to charge $16 grand for it. THIS kind of stuff is what turns people off of electric cars.

This zerogascar.com is interesting but it SCREAMS scam. Anyone have more info on this? if its legit with a good warranty I WANT ONE as it would be a free car for me (I spend almost $400 a month in gasoline the payments on a $12k loan will be smaller than that)

  • Just needed to tick the notify box :-)

  • The Electric Car of the Future will need DOE funding to make it practical.

Find out how at – http://www.America2inc.com/proposal.htm

Email DOE Secretary Chu to show your support.

    the.secretary@hq.doe.gov

    • Could USE DOE support? sure NEED it ? absolutely not. Manufacturers could build under $15,000 nimh powered 100+ mile range electric cars right now if they wanted to.

They do not want to. Not enough money in it for them.
