How does it recognize if the device is an iPhone or not? If it's just the browser's reporting of what it is, could we trick it into letting us use free wifi on other phones/laptops?

This is nice on the road, but being in a 3G area and WiFi at home we'll see how often I get down on it. Great choice by AT&T though.

Wait a minute, what happened? Originally, in addition to iPhone users, Starbucks card holders were supposed to get free wifi. It was pretty straightforward -- just get, like, a $20 card or something, and register it online, and I think you were supposed to be set.

Did that change? Or is it working already? (Maybe they just haven't rolled that out yet.)

That makes the expensive AT&T iphone plans a little easier to swallow. I think that is a great move by AT&T.

Only for iPhone users though - bummer, given that I pay for data on my phone.
