Following the approval [PDF] of the XM-Sirius merger (read: buyout), we can now focus on some of the specifics of the deal, fallout, and all sorts of post-merger hysterics. The first order of business: what happens to Opie and Anthony, of which I’ve been a fan since their WNEW days?
Their contract with XM expires on October 1, but, according to what they’ve said on the show, XM has yet to approach them about a renewal. That may well have been the fault of the merger, but now is when people will speculate for fun. Copy-paste, BCC, etc.
Mel Karmazin, slated to be the combined company’s CEO, has long said that he doesn’t like the idea of sharing content between satellite radio and terrestrial radio. Opie and Anthony can currently be heard on terrestrial radio in New York, Boston, Cleveland and other cities.

I love O&A and listen daily so I hope they do not have to leave satellite radio. I prefer their satellite show to the terrestrial radio show any day.
They better make it. In fact, all of XM202 better make it. I like Howard and all, but I friggin love the boys. I’ll definitely jump ship if they aren’t around.

I am one of the few that pays for Sirius and XM but if O&A, and Ron and Fez don’t make the move I will have no use for Satellite Radio. There is no reason to change anything about 202. Ditch Howard he takes unnecessary vacation, and his fans are already dropping off day by day.
Last time O&A were off the Air people smashed their XM units, however I will smash my Sirius and my XM unit if O and A or Ron and Fez dont make the transition

I’m also gone from XM (not a Sirius subscriber) if O & A go. I have listened to Howard off and on since the days he followed Don Imus 10 to 2 ( before he started trashing Imus). His catch phrase was “fascinating…fascinating” back then. Probably, heard his first years..don’t remember.
I never saw the attraction. Though I must say, I loved Arte Lang in his prime.

You have O&A’s true ratings on the XM side and it would be a poor business decision to not resign them. Pull them off of CBS if you like, but keep them on satellite. If Sirius does this I will reactivate my XM receivers and buy a Sirius hybrid unit when available. If O&A are not resigned, I have little need for your product.

We have 2 cars, mine with XM and my wife’s with sirius. Lately,to save on gas money, I have been driving my wife’s minivan. As a result of this I have been listening to the Stern show and I can say that I am now sick of Howard’s self indulgent personality. If this merger drops O&A then I will drop XM in my gas guzzling SUV and I will drop Sirius in my wife’s minivan (she doesn’t listen to it anyway). I will listen to my ipod and save some money.

I’ll go out there and say that I’m a Stern Fan, been listening since he came to Sirius (never heard him before that). I’ve rented cars with XM and listened to O&A and Ron & Fez, and I just think they’re going to appeal to a different audience than Howard. Personally, I think that Ron & Fez were more entertaining than O&A.
Anyway, my point is that there is enough room for Howard, O&A, and Ron & Fez. Not to mention Bubba the Love Sponge (SIRIUS Howard 101) and I’ll even throw in Covino and Rich (SIRIUS Maxim 108).

Npne of us has the delusion that Howard isn’t compng with the merger. His contract for the half a billion was a 5 year deal. The Virus channel cume is calculated LESS their terrestrial listeners. How radio books work is, you actually fill out a form and say who you listen to, it’s not some electronic tracking thing - it’s a poll. If someone in NY fills in “Opie and Anthony”, that listener goes to the FM side (CBS) automatically, NOT XM. If the program is not listed on any FM station (like Howard), then it goes to satellite. So, that OandA number is less every single listener in every city they are syndicated - you know New York, Boston. That’s a lot of listeners. Look it up - it’s a fact. They are the #1 show on XM, which has MORE subs than Sirius - they don’t have 216,000 listeners. Stop it.

I could care less about O & A. They are sooooo boring. The use of old radio audio and news items is hackey and other bits just plain gross. Trying to fill 5 hours is obviously too much for them.
Ron and Fez are much more enjoyable. Ron is brilliant. The way he can talk on almost any subject is amazing. I would definitely miss that show.
