Verizon Blitz looks really beautifu—aw, I can’t do it!
by Doug Aamoth on July 31, 2008

blitz

Like a shot in the eye from squirt gun filled with horseradish juice, here comes the Verizon Blitz. Gah! I’m guessing that early photos don’t do the device justice but, then again, it’s going to be offered as a pre-paid INpulse phone so maybe looks aren’t as important as features.

And features, it does (sorta) have: VCAST, microSD expansion up to 4GB, stereo Bluetooth, VZ Navigator, and a 1.3-megapixel camera. The phone was originally floated as the UTStarcom TXT8010 back in April, so you may remember it if you’re into various FCC filings and other exciting endeavors like that.

Price? Not sure yet. Availability? Wal-Mart on August 8th and Best Buy on September 28th. I’m guessing it’ll be priced at around $100 or so. That’s just me, though.

  • Considering its probably uber cheap, I thought it looked pretty darn good if you’re the penny pinching type.

    • Hey hey hey. This phone is not cheap. I just got it today and it cost 119.00. I was gonna get the Blackberry Storm but it cost like over 250.00 where I looked for it, Verizon.

  • Im saving up now to buy this phone. This is one of the best phones ever

  • I went to the verizon Store today to check out the Dare. I’ve been considering that as an upgrade. I came across this phone. Let me tell you it is AWESOME! The color, screen clarit, easy texting, decent camera, features. It’s an overall great phone. I am now considering this one because it is half the price of the Dare and still a cool phone. It’s easy to use and everything. I’m waiting to hear some reviews, though.

  • I bought this phone and love it.every thing is so easy to do.I did buy it for the price and have no regrets. it is amazing.love love love it. oh by the way im not a teen. im 52 and i am a first time texter and am texting my kids like crazy.

    • I’m 45 and also a first time texter. I love the QWERTY keyboard. It is easy to text with it. I paid $20 plus tax at Costco with a $100 instant rebate. I don’t like to pay too much for my phones so this is great for the price!

    • I am not a teen either, I’m 47 and its a great phone, great look and great features!!I like unique and this phone is definately unique in every way shape and form. I do have a problem with all of the reviews saying this phone is for pre-teens and teens. First off, who buys this kind of phone for a pre-teen? I mean with all the things going on in the internet and Parents worrying about kids chatting with internet predators, why on earth would you give them a phone that can do all of that and more? I am all for kids being able to keep in touch with their parents via cell phones, but at that age, simplistic is best. If you buy them this now as a pre-teen what are you going to buy them when they become a teen? A Blackberry?

  • I GOT THE PHONE FROM WALMART IN THE PER-PAID SECTON. IM WITH PAGE-PLUS CELLULAR WHICH IS ON THE VERIZON PRE-PAID NETWORK. I LOVE THE PHONE AND IT IS PACKED WITH FEATURES. IT’S ONLY $99 DOLLARS AND THE BEST VALUE YET.

*IT’S CHEAPER TO GET IT FROM WALMART AND USE IT AS A VERIZON CONTRACT PHONE*

  • Just picked this up today. Upgrade on my Verizon plan. Cost me $50. Worth every penny and then more. Awesome to look at, doesn’t feel cheap, doesn’t feel small on your head while talking as expected. I give it a 9.5 out of 10.

  • I’ve had the phone about a month now. Loving it, except for one thing - I’m always accidentally unlocking the phone. It seems like a design defect requiring only that the “OK” button in the center be pressed twice.

    Any thoughts?

  • i fell in love with this phone!Im 14 i got it in prepaid the best thing is they only charge you for the days you use it. The thing thats missing is connecting the phone to your computer and cant downlOAD ANYTHING ELSE THEN MUSIC TO VCAST. IF ANY1 KNOWS HOW TO PLZZZZZZZZZZZ POST IT UP IM DESPARATE TO GET FREE RINGTONEZ

    • Michael, go to myxer tones and send the music to your computer as a pic then email to your phone as an attachment by sending it to for example 5402233965@vtext.com. It will come to your phone via pix message and you can open and save. its free and awesome.

  • Blair, I don’t know what happened but my phone unlocked and I was on the internet for 3 hours! Thankfully it didn’t go to any web pages so I wasn’t charged for it!

Michael, I don’t think you can get free ringtones by downloading from your computer but if you figure it out, PLEASE let us know! I think that is one of the things that we don’t get with the phone. I know there are a few things that we don’t get!

    • Try Phonezoo.com, they have all the free ringtones you want all you have to do is register, and it sends the tone to your phone for free as a text message and once you open it, go save it to your ringtones!! It is a great site……the tones are endless…………or so I have found so far!

  • there is a slight workaround to getting your own songs as ringtones.

If you can get some mp3 editing software, you can edit the song of your choice down to under 1.5 megabytes. Either cut out the part of the song you want to use OR resave the song in a lower format to reduce it’s size) then email it to your phone. To get the email address of your phone send a picture from it to your own home email address, then use that address to send the ringtone to your phone. If it is too big verizon will automatically reject it.

I know its not that simple a thing to do but it is the only way I can figure out how to do it.

I hate crippled phones but I have to use Verizon (family plan), so this is the best I could come up with.

    Hope it helps.

  • i have gone to myxertones and phonezoo many times to send pix and ringtones to my phone via text message. i really want to get this phone…. so talk to me about some of the things you dont like or dislike or questions on how to use phonezoo or myxertones!!:D lizziebabbii93@aol.com

  • I LOVE THE BLITZ IT THE COOLS THING OUT in 2009

  • I was in the market for a QWERTY phone, and I stumbled across the Blitz when I was paging through the Verizon website. I am not a technophile with the need to have the most complex, top of the line phone. Smartphones, typically, are too much phone for me, as I wouldn’t use the majority of the apps on there. So, the Blitz looked ideal for me.

I am what I consider a pretty standard phone user: I talk on it, I text, I store music on occasion, and I take pictures with it. That’s pretty much it…the blitz has been perfect for me, and the VZ navigator and email client has been an added bonus.

I happen to think the phone looks chic without looking intimidating (think BB, Iphone, or Palm products)

The odd thing about the Blitz is that it is/was being marketed towards the teen/tween set, which from what I have seen on various websites are crucifying this phone. according to many of them It is too “kid looking,” not complex enough-too simple (is there such a thing?), not enough bells and whistles, etc. The majority of the rave reviews are comming in from 30-40 somethings, which is a relief, because I think this phone is awesome - I’m 31…glad to know I am in good company.

Maybe it’s because at a certain age one begins appreciate the benefits of simplicity and cost/benefit shopping.

I very much endorse this phone for the average person who likes their phone to be hip and useful without being technologically overbearing with a price point that seems excessive.

The call qualtiy is just fine on my phone, and I live in a moderate VZ network area (New Orleans) The display is very nice and the colors are vibrant, the QWERTY keyboard is much easier to use than a standard number pad, and it just looks fun.

It makes me smile when I look at it…and isn’t that something special in a product these days?

After my discount for renewing my contract plus the online discount, I ended up paying fifty dollars…not too shabby!

  • i’ll be fourteen in one week and my dad is getting me a new verizon phone for my birthday. i have tons to choose from and i was thinking about getting the env but too many people in this town have it so i’m pretty sure i’m going to get the blitz. i just need to know, is it easy to get used to texting on it? i’ve never had a full keyboard, this is my first so i’m worried i’ll be a slow texter. :D please post your dislikes and likes about it, if you have time.thanks.

  • yo why cant i get videos on mine

  • I’m almost 17 and I just got this phone a few days ago. so far i LOVE it.
texting is a dream, camera is pretty decent, and sound quality is MUCH better than my old razr.

one thing not talked about here yet is the battery life– i had lots of trouble with past phones having horrible battery life and my blitz has held up for 3 days worth of texting and moderate talking and still has 3/4 battery bars.. this is amazing!

those of you who were weary of the toy-looking orange display shown in the promo pics, don’t worry, there are 3 options for the menu, including the classic verizon tabs. also, they “toyish” look of the phone in general goes away once you hold it. the blue is darker than in the picture and it does not feel “plastic-y” as one review i read claimed.

the keyboard itself is great too– the buttons are raised perfectly for those of us who like to have a real button to push instead of a slippery flat surface (*cough*dare*cough*)….

only problem i’ve had with it is trying to get my musicto sync on it, but i’m going to try the technique of sending via e-mail in the previous posts. either way, all i want is a few ringtones, its not a big issue.

As its been said, this phone is wonderful for people looking for a qwerty without the baggage of a smart phone.

  • this phone is pretty kool i really like it im 15 and as u know teens txt a lot!!! which im doin right now to my boyfriend brandon!!!

  • I love this phone! It is so easy to text on! But the one thing that I hate is about how it is getting reviewed. Everyone says that it is like a pre-teen phone and a tween phone. All my friends said that it was cute (=

  • Hate This Phone - May 14th, 2009 at 6:39 pm PDT

Had this phone almost a year and HATE IT!! This thing CONSTANTLY unlocks, turns off, freezes screens, and so many other annoying things! The sound quality is very poor.

Wish I would’ve known because I would have purchased something else.

    • I had this phone and took it back in November 2008. I did review it and said that I did not like it at all. You are right, the calls are horrible, it freezes and goes on the internet while it is sitting in your pocket! The only good thing about it is that it texts well; otherwise it is a horrible phone!

      • Hate This Phone - June 10th, 2009 at 4:05 pm PDT

How long did you have the phone when you returned it? Did they give you any problems with a refund, or what ?

        Thanks

        • I bought mine @ Costco. They allow you to bring it back within 90 days. If you get it at the Verizon store you can take it back within 30 days. I took it back in about 40 - 50 days. I told them that the phone was AWFUL! They agreed! I “exchanged” it for an EnV2. I had to pay the difference for the 2 phones. They gave me no problems in returning my phone. Costco has the best return policy!

  • I cant get my bluetooth to except songs from anyones phone, I have the Blitz, Can anyone tell me why.
The reading im getting is when I find the persons phone it is not supported and it doesnt matter what ohone Ive tried several.

  • this phone sucks anal i have it and dont get it. its an old piece of shit with tiny buttons, no video, and breaks easily. Today i did nothing to it and all the sudden it just stopped working, its only been 6 months this phone is shit

  • I just bought this phone like 2 days ago on the Verzin Inpulse plan. I can honestly say its a great phone for the price ($99.99). It Runs smoothly, the sound quality is good and battery life is extraordinary, the menus are customizable and it even has a microSD slot for a memory card. I havent really played around with the camera much simply because i think the whole camera on your phone thing is overated but you have the option of saving pictures and music tot he card as well. Another cool option is the ability to sync music to the device thru VCast Music with Rhapsody. Unfortunatly you cant use these songs as ringtones like i had hoped but its not really that big of a deal anyway. Overall, great value and the keyboard is a plus for those who love to text!!!

  • i’m thinking of getting thes phone, but the one thing people say is that the blitz breaks easliy, is that true?
