After more pressuring China has, again, agreed to open the Internet for the press during the Olympics. After getting an earful from journalists arriving in Beijing to find the Internet not open, as previously promised, the International Olympic Committee exerted some pressure on the government, which once again promised to open the Internet and allow the press to report freely on the games.

Complaints from journalists included: extremely slow connections in the press center, inaccessible international Web sites and harassment from Chinese law enforcement.

But the IOC issued a statement today saying that the issues “are quickly being resolved” and that “the media should be seeing a noticeable difference in accessibility to Web sites that they need to report on the Olympic Games.”

Too bad for the rest of China; the newly unfiltered Internet will most likely only be accessible to journalists in Beijing.
