Conspiracy: Is Microsoft funding the Xbox 360 FFXIII port?

Is Microsoft footing the bill for the upcoming Xbox 360 port of Final Fantasy XIII? We’ll find when the next issue of Famitsu hits, which, say several “insiders,” has a cover feature on the game. One of the topics discussed therein, how and why Square Enix decided to bring the game to the Xbox 360.

There’s also more word on the game’s release date—in Japan by next summer, in the U.S. by the end of 2009—and a debate about the game’s graphics.

Famitsu, if you’re not familiar, is probably the most respected Japanese video game magazine, and not one that peddles around cheap rumors to sell a couple extra copies.

If it comes out that Microsoft is in some part funding the port, would you even be surprised, or angry? Didn’t Microsoft give Rockstar a big sack of money to make Grand Theft Auto IV DLC exclusive to the Xbox 360?

For the money I’d want an exclusive if I was Microsoft, bringing some doubt in the equation.

Still, why should I be angry if Microsoft is getting a port? Its not like the PS3 is loosing Final Fantasy XIII. Its not like Square Enix is losing anything. — The only people angry about this are fanboys. The only time I would get angry about a lost exclusive is if it was first party, as that indicates a company dropping a platform.

Exclusives are stupid, I really can’t wait until some one bridges the gap and creates a consol that is upgradable by the user and doesn’t leave the control in the gaming companies, oh wait thats pc games, oh wait Warez and killed that industry.

Gaming systems should be like playback media, there should be a industry standard to play the game and what “features” you build around it are left up to the company, Ultimatly it should be like a DVD i just go and pop in, and im not talking a formate that are propritary to just one company like blueray.

Selling an extra 5 to 10 million games by bringing it to the 360 should be enough incentive.

Famitsu isn’t any better then gamespot.

Sony doesn’t own blu ray and it isn’t proprietary to them. Xbox could add it as could the Wii if they wanted to. The fact is they are cheap and offer a console with a similar price, just less features.

Don’t forget this tale of corruption all began even before the original Xbox’s release. Microsoft buying up a little third-party development crew known as Bungie for exclusivity of their then Windows and Mac bound “Halo”.

Man neither Microsoft nor Nintendo need to invest money into a blu-ray player there are plenty of suckers willing to buy into hype and mainstream generic gaming. Sony has to provide much more just to get into the American market now because there is so much media favoritism. Plus there this mentality out there that in order to win you have to play dirty and cheat in order to bring the competition down to your level.

Why is there a pic of FF8 when the article is about FF13?

I’m to lazy to read over all the responses, So I don’t care care if I’m repeating anything. But it’s as simple as making money, they ported it over to make as much money as possible. Lets face it theres a lot more 360 models than there are PS3 models and if you open up the potential buyers to two platforms, you’re going to make some serious dough.

Re: Yert

For starters, Square Enix said both versions will look identical. Meaning? One of the consoles will have to sacrifice. Hmm, I wonder if it’s the old architecture or the PS3…

Now, assuming both consoles have identical capabilities (which I don’t believe to be the case anyway), the 360 does not have a Bluray. What does that mean for the PS3 version, if both were to be identical? Forget any nonlinearity in the gameplay.

I for one am no longer interested in this title. It’s not fanboyism or anything (I couldn’t care less which console sells more), I just don’t buy watered down versions.

Excuse me it’s not “fanboyism”? You’re entire post was dripping with PS3 Cock love. I love the PS3 just as much as the 360 so don’t call me out on that, I just can’t believe how stupid PS3 users can be sometimes. I see you’re point about the bluray capability, but do you really think that Square Enix would release a water down product after all the time, effort, and money they put into this video game? They’ll figure out something out. Square Enix is a reputable company, they have continually turned out quality products. I doubt this big of a game will be any different.

Eh, that was not a response to your post. Sorry you couldn’t comprehend the very first line. I’ve put it here because many people keeps saying Yert’s argument over and over again so I thought more people would see it this way and stop beating a dead horse. And if you’re going to call someone (or an entire group for that matter) stupid, at least check your grammar before you do.

I don’t love any console, I just happen to be a PS3, PC and Wii user. Fanboyism? Hah. If FFXIII was to be ported to the Wii or a PC (on DVD), I also wouldn’t buy either version, including the PS3.

As for Square Enix being a reputable company, I think you’re confusing it with Square. I’m sure most true gamers would agree.

I apologize, I wasn’t aware I was writing a dissertation. I thought this was just an online response. I’ll make sure to check my grammar throughly next time, Just for you kitten.

From what I’ve seen, a lot of gamers are just salted about the transition from square soft to square enix. It’s basically still the same company, pumping out the same games, and yes I think their quality is fantastic. It’s folds better than most game company’s, you can’t deny that.

They’ve been working on this game for years, putting tons of money and experience into it. I don’t think any company for that matter would mess that up. Although I am a firm believer that in the end all company’s after one thing ; money.

Maybe you aren’t a Sony fan boy, but your entire post was dripping with fanboyism. I guess just be careful what you write.
