8/8/08, in honor of the Roland 808 beat machine

Today being 8/8/08, we’ll be subjected to all sorts of cute date-and-time gags. For example, John “Parachute Pants” Biggs tells that the Roland TR-808 was a pioneering drum machine back in the day. Music Thing also notes this, and uses the opportunity to remind us of several “808” things. The Beastie Boys once said, “nothing quite sounds like an 808.” Afrika Bambaata even used the little guy, too. I’ve never heard of them!
Um… way ahead of my time. Glad I never had to listen to that noise while growing up. Parachute Pants, on the other hand, loved it.

You fool, you hear 808 sounds in many of the songs you hear today…they’re sampled…but you wouldn’t know that.
cause you shouldn’t be writing about these things.
